Waqf Bill aimed at preserving Waqf properties, Parliament to pass it in coming days: Amit Shah | India News – Times of India
Home Minister Amit Shah on Tuesday reiterated the government’s commitment to protecting and managing Waqf properties through the Waqf (Amendment) Bill, which he promised would be passed in 2014 Parliament soon. Speaking at a press conference to mark the 100-day milestone of Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s third term, Shah stressed that the bill is also aimed at preventing misuse of Waqf properties.
The Waqf (Amendment) Bill, introduced in the Lok Sabha last month, has been sent to a joint committee of Parliament for further consideration after objections were raised by opposition parties. A government official noted that the bill is aimed at reducing disputes over Waqf properties and contains provisions for setting up a digital platform for online registration and monitoring of these properties.
Major Initiatives in 100 Days of NDA Government
During the press conference, the government outlined a number of key achievements in the first 100 days of its current term, including 63,000 Tribal villages will be developed to improve the socio-economic status of five crore tribal people. The National Action for Mechanized Sanitation Ecosystem (NAMASTE) Scheme has also been expanded to include waste pickers, further promoting social and economic empowerment.
In addition, the government has a unique Identification of disabilities Cards for 300,000 disabled people from Scheduled Tribes, including 1.17 lakh for persons aged 60 and above.
The PM-SURAJ initiative has been expanded to provide better access to subsidized loans for livelihood activities for Scheduled Castes, Other Backward Classes and cleaners. Meanwhile, the Eklavya Model Residential Schools program has enrolled over 1.23 lakh students in 405 schools, with 40 new schools established and smart classrooms created in 110 schools for tribal students.
