The devotees of Geeta Colony staged protests on Thursday as they were in shock when they reached the man-made ghat to perform ‘Sandhya Arghya’ to worship the setting sun. They found their ghat without water. The protesters raised slogans against the Delhi government over unavailability of water.
One of the protesters said, “Why did they make all these arrangements if they were not going to provide water? We could have celebrated the festival at home. We will take it out on the streets if there is no water.”
Reacting to the delay in water supply, BJP councilor Sandeep Kapoor said, “Supplying water is the responsibility of the Delhi government, which supplied water only at 4.30 pm. Then I personally arranged two tankers to fill the water supply. pond, but the Delhi government made no arrangements. The water arrived very late and was insufficient.”
Another protester said time is passing but there is no water to complete Chhath Puja. “They could have told us earlier, we could have done it on the rooftops by filling water in tubs… We are being insulted… The MLA has switched off his phone…,” says a devotee who built the artificial ghats in Geeta colony and found them empty.
Meanwhile, the Delhi government claimed that they have made arrangements for devotees to perform puja at 1,000 different places in the city.
