Watch Intel launch their new Core Ultra processor at IFA 2024
Welcome to the worldwide launch of Intel’s next generation core ultra. Today we’re proud to announce our latest core ultra processor, codenamed Lunar Lake. Lunar Lake brings significant innovations in architecture, cores, graphics, and AI. It’s the most power efficient processor we’ve ever built. We’ve completely overhauled the architecture, design, and construction. First, the performance core, which is wider, faster, and more scalable than any core we’ve ever built. It’s the new foundation for how we think about core design. Compared to our last P core, it delivers double-digit improvements in performance per watt and performance per area with Lion Cove. Lunar Lake delivers the fastest CPU core of any processor in a thin and light laptop. Let’s move on to the second type of core. The efficiency core, we’re coding Sky mot. This one has two X’s the throughput. Bid it has much better and improved branch predictor. This one is wider and deeper for more throughput and has a massive 68% I PC increase. Yes, 68%. Now let’s move on to graphics. The overall graphics processor is equally remarkable. Lunar Lake is the first product to use our new XE two graphics architecture and Xe two delivers significant improvements in power efficiency. There are eight graphics cores in Lunar Lake, the average performance increase of each core is about 30% in many games. For example, Cyberpunk, Spiderman Hogwarts legacy, we’re seeing performance improvements of up to 50%. The crowning glory of ex two is easy. It’s the fastest built-in GP U in the industry to prove it, we tested almost 50 different games and we’re faster than our competitors quite a bit 16% faster than AMD, 68% faster than Qualcomm. And that was actually really hard to measure because 23 games weren’t running on the arm processor. Gaming is about more than just performance. Our investment in drivers and day zero game compatibility is a huge part of the experience for our customers. Now we want to show you a demonstration of the R GP U in action on Lunar Lake. All systems are running the same game dota two. Let’s take a look at performance and power. So first look at Lunar Lake versus DA MD on the left. Both are running about the same frame rates, but Lunar Lake is running at about 30% less power. Then if you go over to the right, you have Lunar Lake versus Qualcomm and Lunar Lakes is running about 25% faster. But at half the power, if we do the math, la la laptop is 35% more power efficient than DA MD and over double the power of qual at the end of the day. But we know performance is king to everyone watching. So let’s recap. We’re 30% faster than our previous generation, 16% faster than AMD, 68% faster than Qualcomm. Now let’s move on to AI. We have 100 and 20 total platform tops in Lunar Lake and each of our engines have been increased in capacity. The NPU is four times bigger. The GP U has added AI extensions and we’ve doubled the AI throughput of course. XE two has another trick up its sleeve called XE matrix extensions. We call it XMX, which delivers up to 67 tops just from the GP U. The Lunar Lake GP U is the fastest AI accelerator ever in a mobile processor based on the GP U. We also have a new NPU that is nearly 4x as powerful as our previous generation, up to 48 tops. Other MPs have similar specs on paper, but we deliver the best performance by doing more with each top, because our developers can focus on optimizing their applications and enabling new workloads instead of solving legacy compatibility issues. Now let’s talk power efficiency. Lunar Lake systems bust the myth that X 86 can’t handle low power and long battery life. Lunar Lake is the most efficient X 86 processor ever. The efficiency in Lunar Lake is much more than just the packaging. It’s the fabric. It’s how we make money and of course, process technology compared to our previous generation, we’ve reduced SoC power by 50% when it comes to battery life. We pulled out all the stops. Lunar Lake laptops can deliver 20 hours of active and productive battery life. We measured it this week on a launch-ready customer system and that’s 20 hours in a workload that’s much more demanding than just watching a video on a darker screen. Finally, let’s talk about compatibility before you can even begin to experience performance or power. You just have to get your application running. There’s nothing more frustrating than when you’re on your app. When you load your app, it doesn’t work. Core Alter is built on the proven X 86 platform with software compatibility. You don’t need a website to check if your favorite app will run. Generation compatibility is one of PC’s greatest strengths and L Lake doesn’t violate that trust. And in that spirit, we’re expanding our AI efforts to another operating system. Join me in welcoming John Solomon from Google. Thanks John for coming to Berlin. So instead of me, just talk about it theoretically, um Let me show you some examples. So um you can look at the screen behind me. But what we, what you see there is help me read. This is a new AI-powered feature that we’re introducing. Um actually later this month, September already, right? Yeah, thank you for showing it here. Yeah, it’s the first time we’ve actually shown it publicly so we can all cheer it on. And you know, this is a, this is a, this is kind of a core productivity feature that we’re focused on. Um you know, this is something that we all do in our, in our real world. In fact, um if you think about help me read in action, the Intel team sent me a long detailed email, actually several. I’m sorry to have to help you get ready for this event. And like most of you, I’m running late. I’m a little behind on my emails. So I would have just as much time to read all of my emails. So I used help me read to figure out what I needed to do when and it was just a huge productivity saver. So I was super happy with that. Um You can also see uh in the gift behind me here, Magic editor. This is one of my personal favorites that allows you to quickly make advanced edits to photos using AI. Um whether that’s blurring old photos of yourself or your friends or in the case where you see on the, on the slide. Um I needed to make myself a little bit bigger in the, in the, the image. So I took advantage of that. So be careful when you’re looking at a slide, you never know exactly what that is, I know you’re a cloud client. That’s, that’s how you roll. But this runs on the device and that means it’s blazing fast. It’s local and it’s mine and I can work on the go Intel has some great hardware to run AI locally on your PC. But it’s not always easy for everyone to get started to give everyone the opportunity to try out AI on their PC. Intel has released an open source project called AI Playground, purpose built for Intel Core Ultra and art graphics AI Playground is an easy to use Windows app with a very user friendly interface. You can get started with just one click. It’s free, runs completely locally and has all the latest capabilities AI Playground allows you to select from a rich set of AI models, sized to run locally on your Intel PC. Let’s take a look at it with Lee stable diffusion is a gen aa model that allows you to generate images from text or even other images. Here Lee is prompting the model with Lunar and Lake. Of course to create these beautiful images you see here. The inference is done almost instantly on the R GP U completely locally, no cloud needed from here on. We can switch directly to a small language model using something called retrieval augmented generation or rag. Rag allows you to introduce new skills or knowledge on the fly to personalize your AI. It’s like having a personal chatbot that runs your data locally on your Intel PC. And here we see a great example for developers generating Python. AI Playground is a great example of how we think about AI at Intel. It’s open, accessible, and secure. It’s a great way to get started if this is your first time using AI on a PC. And it’s also a great way to get a head start. If you’re a more advanced user, we hope you’ll love it on your new Core Ultra laptop. So if that’s not enough, I have one more thing to share: pre-orders for Lunar Lake start today. Exactly. And you can start seeing systems on store shelves starting September 24th. We have over 80 unique designs from over 20 top OEMs, many from our partners here in the audience, sold in over 30 retailers around the world. Only Intel can deliver this scale. What you see here on your right. And on the left is a device wall with high-end premium systems from all of our top OEM partners. And we can’t wait for each of you to get your hands on one.
