Watch the brutal moment a grandmother screams ‘you look huge’ at her size 18 granddaughter
A grandmother has been branded ‘evil’ after telling her size 16 granddaughter she looked ‘huge’ in her dream wedding dress.
With her big day approaching, young mother Cassie took her mother and grandmother to the bridal shop to find her perfect dress, but the eldest gave her some stern feedback.
Cassie, who is a size 18, runs a successful wedding planning business and was keen to marry her partner Simon, who also helps her run the business.
The trio visited the Curvy Brides Boutique, where Cassie eyed up a number of dresses for the romantic ceremony before showing them off for mom Cathy and grandma Janet.
One of the options was a stunning, long dress with striking pearl details and a corset-like back to accentuate the waist.
The bride-to-be looked like a real princess and couldn’t believe her eyes. And her grandmother and mother thought she looked ‘gorgeous’.
But after successfully trying on the first glamorous pair, things took an unexpected turn when Cassie opted for the second option.
This was a sleeveless A-line dress covered in small gemstones. The two stylists advised her to alter the dress to a sweetheart neckline to make the outfit even more flattering.
Cathy was impressed by her daughter’s beauty and said she loved the dress, but Janet found it difficult to understand the vision, as she immediately shared her bold opinion.
“You look huge,” she said immediately after shaking her head.
“It makes you look fat, Cas,” the grandmother said without hesitation, stunning viewers of Say Yes to the Dress.
Luckily, the bride-to-be was able to hit back and say, “Let’s face it, I’m not a size 10.”
When the stylist team saw how much Cassie wanted the glamorous dress, they pointed out what small changes needed to be made to make the dress fit better.
“The zipper has to come out and a corset has to go in,” said one of the fashion experts. the video.
“It could work,” she said before having a private chat with the brash grandmother.
“I can’t make you love her, and she can’t make you love her.
“But she can’t ignore a feeling inside her,” the boutique expert said, pointing to her heart.
Despite what her grandmother thought of the wedding dress, Cassie didn’t seem to mind. She said she could see herself walking down the aisle in it.
“I’m talking about shiny shoes and flowers and big braids and mothers who cry.
“I just love it – it sparkles and it shines.”
Wedding Dress Trends 2024
Sophie Creed, bridal designer and founder of bridal brand e&w Couture, shared this year’s most popular wedding dress designs.
Sustainable Chic
Bridal fashion in 2024 will see a strong shift towards sustainability, with brides paying close attention to the fabrics they use to make their dresses.
Many brides also want to wear a second-hand dress or a vintage one.
Boho bliss
The bohemian aesthetic is effortless and laid-back elegance – ideal for relaxed weddings. Whether it’s in a garden, on a beach or under the stars, the boho trend is also great for nature-inspired weddings.
Couples opting for outdoor locations and bohemian-inspired dresses with flowing silhouettes, floral lace and whimsical details that blend in with the natural surroundings. It’s all about bringing the romance of the outdoors into the bridal wardrobe.
Bohemian-style dresses often feature vintage-inspired lace, flowy sleeves and airy details that will stand the test of time.
Satin elegance
Satin wedding dresses are winning the hearts of brides who appreciate the combination of modern simplicity and classic luxury.
This trend is suitable for weddings where an elegant, refined aesthetic is preferred. It is therefore an ideal choice for formal occasions, chic city weddings or other occasions where the bride wants to see herself in a dress that exudes sophistication and grace.
Daring romance
Oversized and daring modern models show a shift in bridal fashion.
This trend is for the bride who dares to be different, who breaks with tradition and embraces a vibrant, contemporary aesthetic on the most important day of her life.
Luckily, Janet saw how happy her granddaughter was in the beautiful dress and she said yes.
“If you want that dress and it’s your dress, then I’ll go with you.”
However, social media users were divided, with some agreeing with the grandmother’s initial response, while others were shocked by her brazen comments.
A TikTok user said: “Nan is evil personified and absolutely not welcome.”
Someone else chimed in: “Trying to look as small as possible shouldn’t be the only reason to choose a dress. I really love that dress.”
“Grandmas are cruel,” joked another.
But not everyone was angry with the grandmother for her venomous comments, as one wrote: ‘Like her grandmother, I liked the first dress better.’
“But what her mother understood immediately was that the only opinion that really matters is the bride’s. And she knew she had found her dress.”
A YouTube viewer wrote: ‘The first dress looked really good on her, I agree with Nan.
“But they did a great job with the adjustments.”
