Bride-to-be Jennifer Rastutis was getting married for the second time and she enlisted the bridal gown gurus at Say Yes to the Dress to help her find the perfect gown.

She wanted a dress that fit the ‘princess-romantic’ theme, but without ‘the beading and the fringes’.

She then referred to a designer dress she had seen and loved, which had a “corset-drop waist and a gathered skirt.”

“Simple, beautiful, elegant and romantic,” Jennifer added. “But also a little bit of a fairytale princess!”

Then the assistant asked, “Is there a budget?”

Jennifer replied: “There’s actually no budget – technically – for the perfect dress. But I would really like to stay under $10,000 (£7,760).”

And in her on-camera report, the bride-to-be revealed who would be footing the bill: “My grandma and grandpa are going to buy the dress.”

She added: “If I could find a dress that I liked that cost $3,000, I would like it even more.

“If I found the perfect dress and it cost $10,000, but it was the dress…would grandma be okay with it? She wouldn’t be happy, but she would be okay with it.”

Jennifer’s mother, Lori, gave her opinion on the wedding dress budget, saying, “Her first wedding was very extravagant, this is her second, and I think she needs to tone it down a little.

“My family is doing well [financially]but in today’s economy their businesses are really struggling.”

The assistant began setting out dresses for Jennifer to try on. When she showed her family and friends the first dress, Randy jumped in to help.

“What about the price? How much can I spend?” he asked before heading into the store to find other dresses for Jennifer to try on.

“My grandma and I had certain conversations – and I knew that if I really found a dress that was ‘it’, she would buy it [for me]”, said Jennifer.

But that’s not really how Colleen, Jennifer’s grandmother, felt.

She said: “Jennifer and I haven’t really talked about her budget yet, but it’s important that she thinks about it, especially in these economic times.”

If I found a dress I really wanted, my grandmother would pay for it.

Unfortunately, there wasn’t a single dress that Jennifer liked.

Instead, she wanted to embellish and alter certain design elements to make her dress custom, with each change adding to the bill.

When the assistant factored in the price of the dress, additional embellishments and alterations, the bride’s outfit cost a whopping $8,500 (£6,600).

And for that price, Colleen couldn’t get her granddaughter to say yes to the dress on the spot.

Instead, the family decided to go to lunch and discuss the dress.

Viewers were then told that Jennifer did not get the wedding dress of her dreams.
