When the family still lived in their home, they paid around £1,148 a month in rent and bills.

However, in their caravan they only have to pay £250 in pitch fees, which allows them to stay on a campsite.

The price also includes electricity, which they can use via an electricity connection.

The family also spent just £8.25 a month on petrol, which comes from gas bottles connected to their caravan.

Ellie and Rowley calculate that they will save a total of over £9,000 in eight months.

“That’s a lot of money to save,” Rowley said.

With all their extra money, the couple wants to have lots of fun days out with their children.

“Hopefully we have many more exciting times ahead with all that free money,” Ellie said.

In addition to the financial benefits of living in a caravan, the duo also say that they find the caravan much easier to clean because of its small size.

Speaking on the couple’s YouTube channel, We’re going to drag“It’s just a lot less stressful than living in a house,” Rowley said.

The garden is also a lot easier to maintain, since they only have a small patch of grass. They do have to fetch water and clean the toilet themselves.

In addition, the children have many more opportunities to be outdoors, as the campsite where they stay is located on a farm.

“They are very social and love it,” Ellie said.

The couple have done a lot of preparation for their move and have bought everything they need to live comfortably in the caravan, including a washing machine.

Frequently Asked Questions about Tiny Homes

The tiny house movement started in the United States and later became popular in the United Kingdom as well.

What is a tiny house?

Tiny houses are small, fully-equipped living spaces designed to facilitate a more sustainable, off-grid lifestyle. Though they vary in size and shape, tiny houses are typically between 150 and 500 square feet, made of sustainable materials, and are easier—and less expensive—to maintain than traditional brick and mortar homes.

Are tiny houses legal in the UK?

As long as the tiny house is no larger than 19.8m x 6.7m, it is defined as a caravan in UK law. Therefore, tiny houses are classed as legal additional dwelling accommodation.

Can you get a mortgage for a tiny house?

The small size and relatively low cost of tiny homes means that they are generally not eligible for a mortgage. However, there are plenty of options for getting a loan to finance your dreams of the perfect, portable home.

“We save so much money on a laundromat with this,” says Ellie.

The family is very happy in the caravan and say they never want to live in a house again.

“You feel much freer,” Rowley said.

“We absolutely love it and the kids never want to go back,” adds Ellie.
