‘We are always there when you call’: Eric Garcetti underlines India-US friendship – Times of India

MUMBAI: US Ambassador to India Eric Garcetti stressed on Wednesday the close friendship between the two countries when it comes to resolving border issues, saying that “we are always there for you when you call.”
Eric Garcetti visited Pandal on Ganesh Chaturthi in Mumbai.
Speaking about US-India relations, Garcetti said ANNI-“We know that sometimes we face the same enemies, so whether it is non-state or state actors, together we are stronger. We are making progress and we believe that we can give India the space to resolve its own border issues. But we are always there when you call.”
Garcetti further stressed that the challenges India faces must be addressed by the Indians themselves and their government. He assured that the US will always be available to provide support whenever needed.
“India’s challenges are for Indians and the Indian government to solve. We are very clear that this is not something to be taught and preached from outside,” Garcetti said.
“But we are here to listen and learn, and no one can deny how close the friendship between India and the US has become in the moments of threats that we have seen, for example on the border with China,” he added.
Garcetti also indicated that the US would like to continue to develop and produce defence technologies with India. He said: “We want India to be a place where our planes and ships can come for repairs.”
“We’ve been there not just in the last few years, but decades ago… We know that with deals like the new engines for airplanes, the Predator drones, other things that we’re looking at, we want to continue to co-develop and co-manufacture. We want India to be a place where our planes and ships can go for repairs. And with things like the Quad, which brings multiple countries together, we know we face the same challenges,” Garcetti said.
