'We have no demands': Congress backs National Conference to form Jammu and Kashmir government
NEW DELHI: Congress leader Jammu & Kashmir Tariq Hameed Karra said on friday that they will provide unconditional support to the National Conference for the formation of the next government in Jammu and Kashmir, declaring the alliance beyond ministerial posts.
“We have no demands. We support the National Conference for the People of Jammu and Kashmir. We will meet with them formally and at that time we will discuss what the governance model will look like. The spirit of this alliance goes much further than that. the game of numbers and ministerial positions,” says Karra.

Earlier, several independent MLAs extended their support to the National Conference in Jammu and Kashmir, including AAP’s debutant Mehraj Malik. AAP has submitted a formal letter of support for the Omar Abdullah-led government to the lieutenant governor’s office.
The National Conference (NC) won a decisive majority after elections held almost a decade later. The National Congress won 42 seats, while its ally Congress won six and the Communist Party of India (Marxist) one seat, passing the majority mark of 48 in an assembly of 95 member states.
Omar Abdullah was unanimously elected leader of the National Conference’s legislative group on Thursday, according to NC Chairman Farooq Abdullah.
Moreover, Abdullah said they will meet the lieutenant governor and ask him about the date when the government will be formed.
“The lieutenant governor is coming, we will ask him for time and tomorrow we will go with the letter of support and ask him about the date of government formation. We have also received support from (AAP). We need to put an end to hatred False propaganda was spread in Jammu, stone pelting, terrorism would start there but they didn’t see their land being taken away, they have no jobs, we need to remove that propaganda from their hearts. We want the Center to restore statehood here so that the government can work here. Jammu and Kashmir is the crown of the country. If the crown does not shine, how will the country shine,” said NC President.
