We have sizes 10 and 18 and have a gem of a winter coat in the first ever Peacocks collection
IS there a shop on the high street that you know is always there, but never think about shopping?
For work, best friend and I, that store is Peacocks.
We’ve heard other friends say they can get great bargains there fashion Influencers get big profits.
But we’ve never shopped there until now.
Me and my work bestie Katy are fashionistas with very different figures.
At 44, I’m a size 10 mom who is aware of my post-childhood wobbly bits.
Meanwhile, Katy is a 33 year old girl with big breasts and a small size 18 frame.
We now try to step out of our comfort zone to help our fellow fashion fans find the best stores for size- and age-inclusive looks.
We’ve scoured favorite supermarkets and high streets to find the right outfits for every occasion – and for every occasion.body.
So this week, for the final episode of the first series of our YouTube load show, we tried a wild one auto with Peacocks.
And it was hit and miss…with some hidden gems in it.
Firstly, we were both drawn to a pleated, oxblood mint dress that screamed ’60s chic. It’s available in sizes 6 to 24 and costs just £28.
We both loved the color, in the deep burgundy color of the season, and the gold zipper detail at the front.
I paired mine with a black polo, while Katy went for a long-sleeved T-shirt. But neither of us were happy with the fit.
Katy was the same size, but felt it didn’t flatter her curvy frame. Meanwhile, it didn’t fit anywhere well for me.
However, I tried a little hack that instantly made the dress look and fit better – I wore it backwards.
For some unknown reason, the gaping opening that I hated when worn properly disappeared, and the zipper detail in the back looked even nicer. A fashion wonder!
We paired the dress with little black pumps, which we both loved. For £15 they are comfortable bargain it will be perfect for that the office.
Next up, was our casual look, which was gray leopard print leggings, available in sizes small to XXL and costing £16, and a cozy oversized borg jacket, available from size 8 to 24 and costing £35.
I loved these leggings, they are a steal for the price and are super soft, sucking you in in all the right places.
But it was another disappointment for Katy. In the large format these were a disasterThey held nothing and were loose around the ankles and the backs of the knees.
So top tip: if you get these, try sizing down.
Meanwhile we were both inside Love with the jacket. Wearing this is, as Katy says, like being hugged from a cloud.
It’s soft, cozy and looks really chic with its contrast buttons and thick collar, giving it a more expensive look than the £35 label. This will be a well-worn piece for both of us during the cold Scottish winter.
Finally, we tried our dressy look – and it was a big hit with both our mates.
We opted for a silver-colored pleated skirt – way outside my mother’s comfort zone – combined with an asymmetrical designer sweater.
And this skirt, ladies, don’t run to get it. There is so much to love.
It’s a bold statement yet stylish, with its small front slit and midi length. It is wonderfully soft and – a big plus – has pockets. Available in sizes 8 to 24 and is a bargain at £22, this will be my festive go-to for the coming months.
And the color block sweater is also a gem. We both loved the flattering pattern and chic neckline. This is available in sizes small to XXL and is another bargain at £20.
Finally, the one accessory we tried: a cute Borg shoulder bag with black straps. I’m usually a crossbody girl but this was a nice change and ideal for dinner or drinks for £20.
Overall, Peacocks was a bit hit and miss – more misses when it came to the plus size range for poor Katy.
But for a place we’ve never tried before, we found a few cute staples and a few hidden gems.
