We quit our high-paying jobs in finance to sell houses and travel the world, and now we’re taking our kids on a $70,000 world cruise.

A couple who were ‘tired of asking permission to go on holiday’ quit their well-paying jobs to start flipping houses. Now they’re taking their kids on a five-month, $70,000 cruise around the world.

Tiffany, 38, and Mark Baker, 40, left their finance roles in January 2019 and from then on vowed to “live life their way.”

They then began making a living by renovating homes, and the couple now owns 35 different properties – from homes to commercial buildings – which they rent out.

They use the money they make from their real estate endeavors to travel the world with their daughters: Giuletta, nine; Penelope, seven; and Delia, six.

Recently the family is preparing for the adventure of a lifetime: a cruise around the world visiting no fewer than 21 countries.

Tiffany, 38, and her husband, Mark Baker, 40, quit their jobs in corporate finance in 2019 and subsequently built a portfolio of rental properties to fund global travel.

Mark recently explained, “We’ve probably flipped fifty houses in the last five years.

‘By flipping those houses, we have now started renting out homes. We have about 35 properties and they bring in $20,000 a month.”

For their final voyage, funded by the rental income, the parents plan to take the gang on a cruise around the world, stopping in 50 ports in 21 countries, including Australia, Africa, Spain and Singapore.

The pair will homeschool their children while working remotely from the ship.

The journey begins in December, when the family flies from their home in Terre Haute, Indiana, to Prague, Czech Republic.

There they will visit Prague’s famous Christmas markets, and then fly to Marseille, France, where the cruise will depart.

Tiffany and Mark shelled out $70,000 for two bedrooms on the cruise.

These costs cover on-board activities, food and drinks.

In doing so, they also gave themselves a spending limit of $10,000.

“We have 12-month goals… we thought, ‘One of these days we’re going to take our kids on a cruise,’” Mark said of their travel goals as a family.

‘This world cruise was one of our goals.

“Tiffany planted the seed while we were on our way back from our vacation in New Orleans, Louisiana, and she said, ‘Why don’t we do the cruise now?’

“We looked at it and it worked.”

On the decision to leave their full-time jobs in 2019, Tiffany said: “The reason we did that was because we didn’t have a work-life balance.

‘We were uncomfortable with having to ask permission for a day off.

“When we quit our jobs, it was more about shaping our lives and living unapologetically.”

“Now that our daughters were in school, we realized that the schools were now dictating when we could go on vacation… We had the same realization as when we quit our jobs,” Tiffany continued about her daughters’ school schedules.

Speaking about the short stretch they will spend in Europe before the cruise departs, Tiffany said: “We love Europe, we lived there for four years – there’s something special about it.”

She continued her itinerary: ‘We have been to Bali and Indonesia before and made a special trip there. We look forward to going there again and visiting friends.”

Mark added: ‘We’ve never been to Rio De Janeiro, Brazil – that will be a cool place.

“Australia has always been on our list and the ship’s route takes us across the continent.”

Tiffany and Mark said both their daughters were “super excited” about the cruise, but admitted that homeschooling could be a challenge.

‘The children are so enthusiastic. They were all born in different countries: Italy, the US and Japan,” Tiffany shared.

“Our nine-year-old daughter is on her fifth passport. I’m looking forward to seeing if it works, to seeing if I can homeschool our daughters from anywhere in the world.”

Mark added: “It’s about seizing the opportunity to see if we can do it and make it work.

‘The worst case scenario is that it doesn’t work. Then they have to go to a regular school.’
