We test SPFs that don’t leave marks – one option won’t leave you feeling greasy
IT’S annoying when you come home from vacation and see that all your white clothes have yellow stains from the sunscreen.
I tested new products and old favorites to find the SPFs that don’t leave a mark.
Budget
NIVEA SUN Sensitive Immediate Protect Sun Spray SPF50+, £9.90 for 200ml, boots.com: While testing SPFs for this column, I noticed that SPFs intended for children or people with sensitive skin were less likely to smudge than other products. This is due to the filters used.
But that also means they’re thicker, take longer to rub in, and can leave a white cast.
This spray is thicker than the other sprays, which can cause the spray head to become clogged and then need to be wiped clean.
Luckily, this is a minor inconvenience, as it doesn’t stain. A great budget-friendly, stain-free option.
Middle class
Garnier Ambre Solaire Invisible Protect Spray SPF50 Transparent Sunscreen Spray, £14 for 200ml, lookfantastic.com: Caudalie knows better than anyone how to protect your skin from the sun.
I haven’t tried one from a brand that I don’t like, but this one met my expectations.
At first I found the invisible spray difficult to use, because you can’t really see where you’re applying it.
But it’s a great addition throughout the day and you don’t have to worry about a white cast or smudging if you don’t apply it properly.
The formula contains aloe vera, which helps to soothe red spots from too much sun exposure. Plus, it’s water-resistant, so you can swim with it without worrying about it washing off.
Luxury
Caudalie Vinosun High Protection Spray SPF50, £30 for 150ml, lookfantastic.com: If you didn’t know that skin care brand Caudalie also makes sunscreen, I can forgive you.
The company is best known for its powerful skin care formulas.
This clever spray contains antioxidants and vitamin E and UV filters to hydrate and brighten your skin.
It takes longer to apply than with a spray can, roll-on or straight from the bottle, but it doesn’t feel greasy or sticky and it has a lovely warm, floral scent.
This is my favorite of the three.
Choice of the week
IF you are a fan of Sol de Janerio body mists, I have good news. This week there is a new fragrance on the shelves.
Cheirosa 76, which costs £24, is much more grown-up than its super-sweet predecessors, with fresh blackcurrant, pear nectar and jasmine alongside the signature vanilla note that runs throughout the range.
It’s instantly warming, like the feeling of sunshine on your skin, and perfect for those sultry nights. See asos.com.
