The Anonymous Redditor u/Theonlyway101810 shared the story in one after.

She explained that she married her boyfriend of 13 years ago in November.

Due to their location, both of her divorced parents had to fly for the ceremony.

“When planning my wedding, I had always planned to have BOTH parents walk me down the aisle, especially considering my mother was the one raising me,” she said.

However, her wish turned out to be much more ‘complicated’ than she had hoped, given her parents’ relationship.

“My parents had a messy divorce because he lied and was just generally abusive,” she explained.

“Because of this, I waited until the last minute to tell my father about the plan, but his new wife obviously did not agree with the plan and forced him to say no.”

To make matters worse, breaking the news to her mother was a disaster.

“She was already nervous because my dad was there so naturally, she starts crying when I tell her this,” she said.

The bride decided to settle for an idea from her sister.

“Our dad walks me down the aisle, my mom stands in the middle and she walks me the rest of the way,” she revealed.

“We thought it was a stupid idea, but it was either that or she wouldn’t walk me down the aisle at all.”

Despite the resolution, feelings were still hurt.

“This has had crazy consequences, my mother STILL feels like I betrayed her,” she said.

People were shocked that she made the decision she did, especially considering it was her big day.

“All the money spent on this wedding, all the work and effort. Just to be a doormat for your father’s new wife. Does your father not have the balls to support your simple request on your wedding day? ” said one critic.

You have to stand up for yourself. You have to stand up for your dreams and desires. Especially on your wedding day. It’s what it’s all about!

“He would rather give his wife the satisfaction than support your simple request. And you said… okay?

“You’re an asshole… to yourself. At the very least. You have to stand up for yourself. You have to stand up for your dreams and desires. Especially on your wedding day. That’s what it’s all about!”

Others agreed that the bride should have stayed by her mother’s side.

“You gave your abusive father another chance to abuse your mother. You gave your stepmother another chance to abuse your mother. You didn’t stand up for your mother,” one viewer said.

After the criticism, the bride reflected on her decision, but still felt like she had no choice.

“I now understand that I was wrong and that I made poor and hasty decisions,” she said.

‘But I think people with divorced parents will understand where I’m coming from if I invite my father. And saying I don’t love my mother is kind of insane.

“This all happened the night before the wedding and it was a destination wedding. The whole thing would have been an even bigger mess if I had told him to stop.’
