It was a long, slightly uncomfortable wait until Netflix *cough* snapped its fingers and renewed the series Wednesday for another season. We did indeed have to wait six weeks after the release of season 1 in late November 2022 until Netflix confirmed Wednesday season 2 after the series’ record-breaking debut.
The question of an exact release date still hangs in the balance. But, Wednesday Season 2 is filming. Netflix confirmed in a press release in May that filming had begun in Ireland, the same location as season 1, but it is unclear how long filming will last. Encouraging news from Wednesday itself, as Jenna Ortega apparently confirmed that the first four episodes have been filmed, during a Extra TV YouTube interview.
Either way, it’s exciting news to hear that it’s finally happening and we’d say, based on this, it’s safe to assume we won’t see any major changes. Wednesday season 2 until mid-2025 at the earliest. Although we wouldn’t rule out a scary good late 2025 launch.

Although McShane will reportedly reprise his role briefly, albeit in a guest role, to “likely wrap up his character’s story” after his son Tyler was revealed as the Hyde.
Speculation About Wednesday Season 2 Story
Spoilers for the full story follow ahead Wednesday season 1.
The Wednesday Season 2 plot remains under wraps for now. So far, all we have are predictions and theories, which the cast discussed during Netflix Tudum 2023.
Even the actors can’t tell us what it’s about, as Emma Myers (Enid Sinclair) tells us. NME “I can’t tell you anything about Wednesday season two! Otherwise my body will be buried somewhere and you will never see me again.”
So, what are these theories? First, there is talk of Crackstone’s ring being dropped on the ground after his apparent defeat in the Season 1 finale. A poignant moment captured and shown to viewers may indicate that someone else retrieves the ring and possesses its powers, although it is unclear who this could be.
Then there’s the demise of Miss Thornhill, aka Laurel Gates (Christina Ricci), who was revealed to be the person responsible for controlling the Hyde Monster. Who is the Hyde in question? None other than Tyler, one of Wednesday’s love interests.
Given that the Hyde Master has control over Tyler, and that when Wednesday’s car drove past Tyler’s prison vehicle, it triggered him to take on his Hyde form, fans believe that Wednesday is now in possession of Thornhill’s powers. Ortega teases this possible connection further, saying that it would be fun to see Wednesday have a pet. The plot thickens…

Elsewhere, Professor Weems (Gwendoline Christie), the shape-shifting headmaster of Nevermore Academy, was seemingly murdered in season 1 – but you can never be too sure with these things. Keen viewers noticed that when Lurch, the Addams Family butler, drove home for school on Wednesday in season 1 episode 8, he had a different eye color than he had earlier in the season. Is this really Weems in disguise? Who knows, but we can’t wait to find out if this is a theory we’ve been right to point out well before Wednesday release of season 2.
There are plenty of other subplots that Season 2 could and likely will explore, such as Wednesday receiving threatening text messages, Nevermore Academy being left without a principal after Weems’ supposed death, Gates’ fate being left in limbo, the fallout from Xavier’s wrongful imprisonment in Episode 7 (and subsequent release in the finale), and more.
Speaking with Entertainment tonightOrtega also offered her thoughts on Wednesday’s potential evolution heading into next season. “I want her to get a little darker,” she teased. “I want her to get more into the details, not play it so safe… I want to continue to have an antihero flow, rather than a typical hero.”
There is not a little exciting to tell about Wednesday season 2, Ortega also spoke with Vanity Fair about how each episode will stand out on its own. “Each episode [of season two] “The one that I’ve read so far is something like that,” she said. “It just stands out as a really memorable scene or bit or setting, and I think that’s what I’m most looking forward to, because to sustain that for eight episodes is, I think, really incredible and really lucky.” Thematically, we can expect more expansion into the supernatural world. And yes, we’re also hoping and dreaming of Cousin Itt like Ortega himself.
More recently, during her September cover story for Vanity FairOrtega had some excellent plot details to share for Season 2. First, it was revealed that she’ll not only be returning as Wednesday, but also as a producer. And as for taking on her new role in Season 2, she had some insight to share about the plot, “I think the feel that we’re going for is a little bit more horror-inspired. Not that we’re suddenly going to be the goriest show of all time. I mean, we’ve got six-year-olds watching.” Previewing the horror that Wednesday will bring to the table this time around, she teased, “We’re doing this thing where Wednesday just kind of shows up. She’s a little bit of a jump scare herself.”
Wednesday season 2 trailer: is there one?
No. There won’t be one for a long time. We’ll update this guide once one is finally revealed.
Where to watch wednesday season 1
Wednesday is one of Netflix’s most impressive TV originals. That means all eight episodes of Wednesday Season 1 is available exclusively on the world’s best streaming service.
Despite rumors that the series could surprisingly move to Prime Video following Amazon’s acquisition of MGM (the latter was one of several production companies announced Wednesday), IndieWire confirmed that Netflix would remain the home of Wednesday for season 2 and beyond. And while we’re on the subject…
Will Wednesday get a third season on Netflix?
It feels a little premature to say that a third season is coming, but we’d be surprised if Wednesday season 2 is the end.
Season 3 sounds incredibly likely, with showrunner Miles Millar saying Variety: “For us, it’s always looking to the future, and when we sit down to make a show, ideally we’re looking at multiple seasons. That’s never expected, but that’s the expectation that the show will hopefully be successful. So you’re always laying out at least three or four seasons of potential storylines for the characters.”
Three or four seasons? I don’t care if we do that. And we know for sure that Netflix will honor that plan properly, especially if Wednesday season 2 is just as big (or even bigger) than its predecessor. And with Bloomberg With reports that Netflix is tentatively developing a spinoff on Wednesday, we may be in for more Addams Family adventures in the future.
