An Australian mother of three looks unrecognizable after losing 36kg in just over 12 months after childbirth.

Laura Kukulovski hit 94kg in February 2021 and said she had “put on quite a bit” during her third pregnancy.

Despite suffering from diastasis recti – separation of the abs – she managed to shape her physique by following recipes and simple home workouts from the Australian fitness community The healthy mom.

In six months she lost 24.4 kg, three dress sizes and another 11.6 kg.

Laura had a cesarean section that healed quickly, but found her body “wasn’t the same as it was” compared to her previous two pregnancies.

“My stomach was just a big bulge and no matter what I did, I just couldn’t get rid of it,” she said.

She later found out she had diastasis recti and didn’t believe anything could repair the damage, but then she discovered the online program and was inspired to follow it and study fitness.

She did easy walks and postpartum home workouts that lasted between 15-30 minutes. She also followed a meal plan that included recipes such as lasagna and stews made with whole grain, fresh and clean ingredients.

“I used to hate food because it would make me feel crappy and lazy, now I’m looking forward to what I can try now,” she said.

Laura’s typical ‘day on a plate’

Breakfast A grab and go style snack prepared earlier in the week, such as overnight oats or a smoothie

Snacks – Something ‘crunchy’ like paprika Parmesan chips or a sweet treat like healthy cinnamon rolls (recipe on the website)

Lunch Something fresh and easy like rice paper rolls or a Thai beef salad

Dinner – Slow cooker meals because they are so easy to toss together

Dessert – Anything with some chocolate or a warm muffin with a little bit of ice cream

Today Laura weighs 58.5 kg, but like everyone else, she had some setbacks on her weight loss journey.

“I’m only human, but every day is a new opportunity to start over and turn that setback into a learning curve,” she said.

She also feels significantly less bloated and has more energy, and her overall view of food has changed.

“I used to hate food because it would make me feel crappy and lazy, now I’m looking forward to what I’m going to try next,” she said.

An example day on a plate with the Healthy Mummy program

BREAKFAST: Smoothie with skimmed milk. Cappuccino with skimmed milk.

SNACK: A protein bar or banana cake.

LUNCH: Beef nachos or BBQ chicken with vegetables.

SNACK: Fiber One Bar or Whole Wheat Choc Chips

DINNER: Beef stroganoff

DESSERT: Choc lava microwave cake

“My favorite snacks and meals are the paprika Parmesan chips, Thai beef salad, rice paper rolls and the cinnamon rolls.”

For those looking to lose weight, Laura suggested taking it “one day at a time” and believing in yourself rather than letting your thoughts take over.

“If I could give any advice it would be to not put so much pressure and stress on yourself,” she said.

“I found that the more I worried and stressed, the less my measurements and the scales changed. Once I let it go and started enjoying my journey, I really saw the results.’
