‘What the hell are those?’ Ugg fan cries over new £200 ‘Karen stompers’
With fall fast approaching, many fashion fans are pulling out their UGGs.
And while the Australian brand’s sheepskin boots and Tasman slippers are still popular, opinions are divided on its latest offering.
Influencer Perrie Sian went to TikTok to give her opinion on the New Heights Platform Mini Boot. She admitted that she was “really excited” when she received an email from UGG notifying her of a new version.
But when she opened it, she nearly fell off her imaginary chair.
“What the hell are these, these £200 Karen Stompers?” she shouted angrily.
“Excuse me? Excuse me.
“What the hell are those?”
According to UGG’s website, the boot, which comes in three colors, is “like nothing you’ve ever worn before.”
“A slip-on shoe with a bold platform and a stacked outsole. You’ll be amazed at how stable you feel as you reach new heights,” they continued.
But Perrie continued to insist the boots “looked like a horse”, before asking herself: “Is this an April Fools’ joke?” and calling it a “step too far”.
“Maybe UGG is out of ideas, so they decided to make every shoe an UGG,” she mused.
“What the f**k is next? A stiletto UGG?
“I don’t feel well physically!”
“For £200? Sorry, have UGG gone mad??” Perrie captioned the video.
People were quick to react to the clip. One person wrote: “I love Uggs so much but even I can’t wear these!”
“That must be a joke!” said another.
“I got the same email and was stunned!!! Horrible,” a third commented.
“No, I was actually gasping for air!” said someone else.
“I’ve been waiting to see what the new Uggs would be this year, nope, not getting them right away!” wrote another.
Others, however, were more impressed with the new addition, which features an 11.5cm heel and an 8cm platform.
“Give Spice Girl!” someone wrote.
All the sloppy ’90s clothes Gen Z thinks are trendy
Millennials survived Robbie Williams’ departure from Take That, the Y2K bug… and low-cut waistlines.
While Gen Z trashes millennials at every opportunity, they now scour thrift stores and pop culture archives for the most disastrous trends.
Clemmie Fieldsend, fashion editor of Fabulous, shares the ’90s fashion trends she finds ‘boring’ but Gen Z finds ‘cool’.
“They told us skinny jeans weren’t cool. I agree with them, but it’s hard to get fashion advice from someone who wears a skirt over jeans and a sweater that Andi Peters would have worn on children’s TV.
Pedal pushers
I was shocked to see Topshop pedal pushers on Asos. They were the go-to tw of fashion’s most unfashionable era: the late nineties, early noughties. And now they’re back with Emily Ratajkowski and Alexa Chung, selling them on the high street.
Fuddy Flies
The most tasteless of all the nineties fashions that is still acceptable today is the fleece. You probably had a knock-off version from Berghaus back in the day.
In October, customers went crazy for F&F’s Tesco North Face knock-off, which cost £37 (£283 less than the original’s £320) and was viewed seven million times on TikTok.
Cropper jacket
The lightly padded waterproof jacket is currently a hit among celebrities.
As far as I can tell, this jacket was inspired by one of the TV series’ most unlikely fashion muses: Coronation Street character Roy Cropper, who has worn it on the cobbles for the past 30 years.
But brands like Prada and Bottega seem to have been inspired by Roy’s beige jacket.”
“I really love them!
“I hated platform UGGs until I saw Bella Hadid in them — I literally feel like a sheep.”
“I like them!” agreed another.
“Sorry, why do I even like them?” asked a third.
“I bet you’ll wear these and love them. I’m calling it,” someone else teased.
