Simple, classic, understated. That pretty much sums up my wardrobe. I only buy pieces that I will wear multiple times and for years to come. Basically, my dress sense is, well, boring. Skirts – especially singing, dancing statement skirts – couldn’t be less for me. When and where will I wear one? And even if I find an opportunity, it won’t be used much.
They should be a no-go zone, but this season I can’t resist. There was bead and sequin embellishment at Prada, striking purple metallic leather at Saint Laurent, layered silk taffeta at Miu Miu and pleated print satin at Versace.

NOT JUST FOR PARTY
It turns out that once you have a statement skirt, you find the occasions to wear it and your skirt doesn’t have to be “saved for the best.” Something flashy, fun and a little crazy, like this layered tulle skirt from Boden (right) even looks great at the office dressed with a cashmere sweater.
PERFECT WITH KNITTING
Whether for day or night, I’d let your skirt do the talking and keep the rest of your outfit simple. You’re bordering on dressing up with some of these designs and as fun as that is, it probably isn’t the look you’re after. So wear yours with simple knitwear in neutral colors and understated shoes, be it sneakers, loafers or elegant pumps. What are you waiting for?
