Why is Mean Girls Day celebrated on October 3?

Fan-created Mean Girls Day is celebrated annually on October 3.

The widely celebrated day stemmed from a scene between character Cady Herron and Aaron Samuels in a math class.

During the scene, Cady is seen drooling over her crush, Aaron, before turning to ask her, “What day is it?”

Startled but excited about the chance to talk to the IT boy at school, Cady responds, “October 3.”

Every year when this particular day arrives, fans take to social media to share clips and memes, reflect on the iconic Mean Girls moment and celebrate the hit high school movie.

When was Mean Girls released?

Directed by Mark Waters, Mean Girls was released on April 30, 2004.

The screenplay, written by Tina Fey, is based on Rosalind Wiseman’s non-fiction self-help book Queen Bees and Wannabes, which focuses on the subject of high school cliques.

Starring Lindsay Lohan, the film saw her character move to the United States after a rural upbringing in Africa with her zoologist parents.

Going to an American school isn’t what Cady expected, and she soon finds herself in the A-list group, The Plastics.

Trouble arises when she makes the mistake of falling for Aaron Samuels.
