‘What’s going on?’ people say after teacher shares parent’s shameless demand
TEACHERS often receive a lot of praise for the difficulties they can experience when working with young children.
Sometimes, however, it is not the children who are the problem, but the parents.
That’s what happened to a teacher in the US when she shared her experience on TikTok.
The woman, who posts under the username @ktlarson27, said on the social media platform that one of the children in her class had a birthday party coming up and that her parents had asked for the class list.
She says that shortly afterward, the parent gave her the invitations and that she would put them in the children’s mailboxes.
However, she then realized that only a few had been written.

“I open them [to find] only the first invitation was written,” she said say.
“That parent sent me a message that day with the information and I thought that was something for me because I was invited.
“No, I had to write all the invitations.”
She added that none of the invitations were “hidden” in the envelopes.
People responded in the comments and expressed how ridiculous they found the situation.
“I was outside at ‘the envelopes weren’t filled.’ What possessed a parent to think that was okay?” one person said.
Another wrote: “I was stunned. What is going on? soil?!?”
“The fact that parents think teachers have time to send and mail party invitations.
“Absolutely not [clapping hands emoji] “The brutality is loud,” wrote a third.
Someone else asked, “Is she going to ask you to help out at the party if you go?”
A fifth commented: “Why… why are you asking for the class list if you’re not going to speak to them and send them out anyway?”
Several fellow teachers also responded to the reactions and shared their experiences with what parents expected of them.
Average cost of a children’s birthday for parents
New research from Voucher Cloud, the UK’s leading money-saving brand, has revealed that more than two-thirds of British parents throw their children a birthday party every year, and the costs can be high.
- Average party spend – £320.50
- Average spend on gifts – £175.80
“The fact that parents think teachers have time to send and package party invitations. We don’t have time to go to the bathroom, ma’am!!!” said one.
Another wrote: “I had a parent come by with party bags, party games, and party food and ask when their child’s class party was scheduled so they could get back to me later. [cringing emoji].”
A third commented: “I once had a parent who sent an entire birthday cake, no plates, no napkins, no forks and no knife!”
“The same thing happened to me!
“And then on the day of the party the mom emailed me canceling the party and telling me to tell the kids and their parents to just drop off the presents on the porch…” wrote a fourth.
