WhatsApp gets advertisements and I would like to say that I am stopping the app, but I know

- WhatsApp finally gets advertisements
- They appear on the updates tab, integrated with statuses and channels
- Regular chats are not influenced by the chnages and are still private
It is official, WhatsAppThe latest update of the platform brings advertisements.
My first reaction to this news was fear that the conversations with my friends could be diluted by pop-ups as you can see on Messenger (another meta-ownership of Message Service). Fortunately, however, it looks like WhatsApp Keep his advertisements on locked on the Update tab. At least for now.
On the updates tab you will notice that both channels and statuses receive the advertising treatment. Channels are special groups that you can use, with hosts that send and update you messages. They are popular with football teams, influencers and news broadcasts (in fact, We here at Techradar have one that you can do with).
The advertisements come in the form of newly promoted channels, which will soon appear when you look through the folder. They are recommended based on what whatsapp thinks you will find interesting, assuming that the channel pays to be promoted.
Statuses (actually WhatsApp stories) are ways to share quick updates and highlights with friends and family. Now advertisements also appear as stauses – are re -promoted to you based on your interests.
WhatsApp channel subscriptions adds on top of these changes. These are not advertisements, but are a different (and in my opinion better) way to make money from WhatsApp.
By paying a monthly fee, you can support your favorite channel and get exclusive updates in exchange-one as you do through services from third parties such as Patreon or Premium newsletters.
WhatsApp has addicted me
After I have endured the changes, I was generally less concerned than when I heard of the announcement.
I rarely use the updates tab, and if WhatsApp’s blog post Explains: “If you only use WhatsApp to chat with friends and loved ones, there is no change in your experience at all.”
Later it adds that these advertisements also have no influence on your privacy. “Your personal messages, calls and statuses remain end-to-end, which means that nobody (even we) cannot see or hear them.”
Meta explains that status and channel advertisements are based on the limited information it collects, such as where you come from, the language where your app is set, which channels you are already following and how you are involved in advertisements you are shown.
If your WhatsApp is part of your Meta Accountscentrum, this also bases his data on information from your other accounts.
It really tries to insist that our chat data is just as safe as always, and that non-updates chats are not changed.
It feels like the start of a smooth slope for me, but just like the rest of WhatsApp’s 3 billion monthly active users – a figure that makes the world’s largest message platform – I know I can’t leave.
That is not only because I don’t want to lose the chats and contacts that I already have through the app (everyone migrating to another service would be a Sisyphean task), but also because it is like someone who travels a lot, it has enabled me to make restaurant reservations when I could not do taxis.
So for now I stay with WhatsApp, but I am also starting my hunt for a new service -even considering jumping back to classic SMS messages or Google messages from Android, who have received a few upgrades in recent years.
Even if things get worse, I am not sure if I can leave, but the best thing I can do is try.
Maybe you like it too
