WhatsApp now lets users make HD the default option when sending media
WhatsApp for Android is getting a new feature that lets users set the default media upload quality. The feature has reportedly been in development for some time and was first spotted via a feature tracker in March in WhatsApp for Android version 2.24. 5.6. The feature is now rolling out to the public. WhatsApp recently introduced several new updates to its video calling feature that improve the service on both mobile and desktop apps.
First spotted According to Android Police, WhatsApp for Android now lets users set the default media upload quality. This means that users can set the default quality setting to HD, without having to enable it every time they share an image or video with someone on WhatsApp.
The new switch is located in the settings option under Storage and data in WhatsApp. Gadgets 360 staff was able to verify the availability of this feature in the latest stable WhatsApp for Android.
As can be seen in the screenshot, the feature is available in the form of a new Media upload quality option that offers two choices:
- Standard Quality – Send smaller file sizes faster
- HD Quality – Slower to transmit, can be 6 times larger
Feature tracker WABetaInfo suggested that WhatsApp was testing the feature in March. However, it wasn’t even available to beta testers at that time, according to the claims.
WhatsApp Channel Analysis
WhatsApp for Android is said to be testing a new channel analytics feature. It was reported seen in the app version 2.24.13.10. It is speculated that this feature will provide analytics to WhatsApp channel owners along with metrics such as net followers and number of accounts reached. It is said to provide insights into the audience engagement and performance of the WhatsApp channel.
According to the feature tracker, the app is still in development and is not yet available to beta testers.
