WhatsApp will soon let you find your favorite chats with a tap

WhatsApp for Android is reportedly working on a new feature that will allow users to add and filter their favorite chats for easier access. The feature is in development and, according to the report, will be rolled out to testers who have registered through the Google Play Beta Program. Once the feature is rolled out in beta, these users will be able to see and test the feature. WhatsApp is also reportedly testing unread messages and group filters that will show specific chats.

Feature tracker WABetaInfo discovered the new feature on WhatsApp beta for Android 2.24. 12.7. The feature allows users to separate their favorite chats with a new filter. It will likely come in handy for people who receive a lot of messages from multiple people and struggle to find their regular contacts. While chat pinning also exists, the platform only allows for a maximum of three pinned chats.

The publication also shared a screenshot of the feature. The image shows four new filters at the top of the screen (below the WhatsApp logo). All, UnreadAnd Groups filters were reportedly added earlier. Now there is a fourth Favorites filter can also be seen.

The description of the feature reads: “Make it easy to find the people and groups that matter most in WhatsApp.” At the bottom, there is an “Add to favorites” option that can be clicked to manually add contacts to this list.

WABetaInfo also claims that users will be able to delete chats and reorder them to their preference. Since the feature is rolling out in beta, all beta testers may not see it right away, but it will likely appear in the coming days.

WhatsApp extends voice message duration for beta testers

Separately, WhatsApp recently increased the maximum length of voice messages in Status updates. Earlier, users could only upload voice messages of 30 seconds, but now the instant messaging platform has increased the length to one minute.

This feature has been rolled out on both Android and iOS. Additionally, the platform is also reportedly working on an Imagine shortcut that will allow users to generate AI-powered images. This feature is powered by Meta AI.
