‘When someone is rude, the block button is my favorite’ Olivia Bowen on mother shaming

Since leaving the Love Island villa in 2016, Olivia Bowen has had to deal with a lot of online hate.

However, the young mother insists that she will no longer be boxed in by the trolls.

The 31-year-old spoke exclusively to Fabulous as brand ambassador for Cocoa Brown, which launched in Superdrug stores across the UK last week.

Olivia has a two-year-old son, Abel, with her husband Alex, whom she met in the second season of Love Island.

After the couple ended their reality career as the second, they received a lot of attention from the media.

While they are still in the spotlight, they are no longer on TV, but now also create content about home renovations on social media.

Olivia acknowledged that a public platform comes with hateful comments, which shows how her mindset has changed over the years.

“I think when you’re younger, you care a lot about what other people think,” she said.

“I think it just changes with age. I don’t know why, I don’t know how, but it just changes…

“When you have a child, there are bigger things to worry about and be concerned about than what someone online, who you don’t even know, thinks.”

She also shared her simple solution to all the negativity directed at her online.

“The block button is my favorite button. If someone is rude, I block them and only the nice people are left,” she said.

Thanks to the sense of security that comes with age, Olivia can now laugh off the “stupid” comments she gets. But it wasn’t always like this.

“I think as a mother you’re very sensitive because you just don’t know what to expect,” she said.

“I was quite sensitive, but actually people are just trying to give you advice and take care of you. I think I see that now, and it’s really nice.”

There is, however, one more topic on which she can’t stand other people’s opinions.

“When it comes to my house, people always have strong opinions about what I do. I always find that really funny because I think, ‘You don’t even live there, it doesn’t matter,'” she said.

“But everyone is entitled to their own opinion on these matters and you are exposing yourself to the opinions of others so that they can be viewed and opinions can be formed.

“Over the years I’ve developed a thicker skin and have come to the realization that it doesn’t have to bother me anymore.”

Olivia and Alex, who live in Essex, are currently renovating their home, having sold their last home for £1.3 million.

Olivia’s self-tanner tips

Olivia shared her long-perfected self-tanning routine.

  • Scrub 48 hours before tanning.
  • Shave your legs 24 hours before tanning.
  • Pre-hydrate.
  • Apply the self-tanner evenly with medium pressure.
  • Apply Vaseline to your ankles and knuckles, or other areas where you suffer from dry skin.
  • To maintain your tan, you must moisturize your skin daily.
  • Pat yourself dry after showering.

They have also renovated two rental properties and plan to purchase another property at auction this year, which they will then resell and sell for a profit.

Olivia said: “I love my interior and my work. For me it’s kind of a break from motherhood.

“I enjoy being with Abel and I enjoy working because I have been able to make something I love my profession. So I am grateful for every day.”

Speaking of breaks, Olivia gets them when Abel goes to daycare twice a week. She explained that her mother has gone back to a part-time job so she can take care of her grandson two more days.

“It’s a win-win. Of course it’s hard to leave your child, but I think for us moms, if it’s work or even a little bit of self-care, it can be worth it,” she said.

“You can’t pour from an empty cup and stuff like that.”

The family are leaving today for the Greek island of Crete after a holiday at the luxurious Atlantis the Palm in Dubai, where earlier this year a room cost around £1,000 a night.

Olivia said it’s “hard enough” being a parent without having to unnecessarily criticize each other.

“It can be hard and people don’t realize what other people are going through behind closed doors. You don’t know the whole story,” she said.

“Why does everyone make things so difficult for each other, when we all know it is difficult?”

Olivia encouraged everyone, especially mothers, to support each other.

“Luckily, I have a really nice group of friends who do that. And they’re also mothers, so I can always fall back on that,” she said.
