When You Can Stream ‘Descendants: The Rise of Red’ on Disney Plus

A new Descendants movie is “red-ish” and will fill your head with catchy tunes, introduce new characters and likely spawn a lot of scarlet Halloween costumes.

If waiting for Descendants: The Rise of Red has you in a bad mood, you can stream the newest Villain Kid feature tomorrow on the Disney Plus streaming service. In the film, Chloe (Malia Baker) and Red (Kylie Cantrall), daughters of Cinderella (Brandy) and the Queen of Hearts (Rita Ora), travel through time to discover what led the Queen of Hearts to embrace villainy.

In addition to seven new songs, the spinoff will feature two revivals and a cover of So This Is Love from the 1950 animated classic Cinderella. While the film features a largely new cast, Melanie Paxson returns as the Fairy Godmother and China Anne McClain’s character, Uma, is the principal of Auradon Prep. Brandy reprises her role from 1997’s Cinderella alongside Paolo Montalban, who played King Charming in Rise of Red.

Disney Plus offers all of the previous Descendants films if you want to catch up, including the 2021 animated TV special Descendants: The Royal Wedding, which Teases Descendants: The Rise of Red in the final seconds. How to Watch Descendants: The Rise of Red on Disney Plus

Viewers in the US can start watching The Rise of Red as early as 12:01 a.m. PT (3:01 a.m. ET) on July 12. In a different Disney Plus region? The film will premiere at midnight local time, Disney says.

US customers who want to sign up for Disney Plus can choose between Disney Plus Basic at $8 per month and Disney Plus Premium at $14 per month. You can also pre-pay for a year of Premium, which costs $140, saving some money versus paying for 12 months separately.

If you’re hoping to watch Descendants: The Rise of Red on Disney Channel, you’ll have to wait a little longer. The film premieres on August 9 at 8pm ET/PT.
