A fascinating, reworked world map reveals each country’s most popular cruise destination – and the Caribbean is the world’s favorite place to travel on a ship.
The map is color-coded to indicate each country’s favorite trip, and the country names are supplemented with the names of the places residents most want to sail to. The results were generated by analyzing the cruise itineraries people searched for most on Google between March 2023 and April 2024, based on a master list of 100 popular cruise destinations.
The Caribbean is the most popular cruise destination, with a total of 2.8 million searches, and tops the wish lists of 44 different countries around the world, including the UK, Mexico, Jamaica and Sweden.
The Mediterranean is the second most sought-after destination, with 2.1 million searches in the last twelve months. Spain, France and Croatia are among the countries that most search for this destination.
An Alaska cruise ranks third with 1.8 million searches and is the most popular cruise choice for US and Canadian residents.
The map above shows countries color-coded to indicate their residents’ favorite cruise destinations. The results were generated by analyzing the cruise routes people search for the most on Google.

A cruise along the River Nile comes in fourth place (one million searches), with Germany, Italy and the Czech Republic among the countries looking to explore Egypt’s ancient temples and tombs using a ship as their headquarters.
The fifth most searched for cruise destination, according to the research conducted by cruise travel insurance specialists Everything clearis Antarctica. The icy place has a total of 969,670 searches and tops Australia, Brazil and New Zealand.
In sixth place is a cruise on the Seine (695,040 searches), the most popular search among people in Ireland, Vietnam and India.

In both Australia and New Zealand, the most popular cruise route is Antarctica. While China opts for the Mediterranean and India, a river cruise on the Seine
Cruising the Norwegian fjords ranks seventh with 674,230 searches, and a river cruise on the Danube – top in Romania and Slovakia – ranks eighth with 548,840 searches.
The rest of the top ten consists of a Mississippi River Cruise (462,580 searches) and a Hawaiian Cruise (454,670 searches).
But not all countries can determine their dream destination. This also applies to the Japanese. For them, cruises ‘around the world’ (11th, 424,920 searches) are the most interesting.
