Hollywood legend Tom Cruise has jumped from the roof of the stadium in death-defying stunt during an extravagant handover ceremony.
The 62-year-old could be seen strapped into a harness, ready to wow the thousands of fans in Paris, as the wacky closing ceremony draws to an end.
He took up his position as the speeches concluded for his grand finale and US R ‘n’ B star H.E.R. sang and played the Stars And Stripes, American national anthem on her guitar.
The actor then rappelled down onto the ceremony stage from the roof of the Stade de France.
Cruise was handed the five-ringed Olympic flag by gymnast Simone Biles and the Mayor of LA which he loaded onto the back of a waiting motor-cycle.
Dressed in his trade-mark Top Gun black leather jacket, the action star then drove out of the arena standing up.
The switch across the Atlantic saw live performances from pop superstar Billie Eilish, LA rockers Red Hot Chili Peppers and Snoop Dogg.

Then Californian natives Red Hot Chili Peppers, Billie Eilish and Snoop Dogg offered a taste of what is to come at the 2028 Los Angeles Games as they performed to crowds at Venice Beach.
After the Olympic flag was passed between several US Olympians, it arrived at the famous beach where the Red Hot Chili Peppers were playing their hit Can’t Stop.
The rock band then handed the stage to Eilish who delivered a sweet rendition of her new track Birds Of A Feather while dressed in an oversized T-shirt, shorts and baseball cap.
Snoop, who has popped up at various events across the Olympics, later entered the beach to perform his classic track Drop It Like It’s Hot alongside US fellow rapper Dr Dre.
The show stopping ceremony earlier saw a ‘golden bee-man’ descend into the stadium, as well as a floating pianist and ‘toilet roll mummies’ dancing around, as the closing ceremony shaped up to be as strange as the start of the games.
After the golden voyager was lowered to the stage from the roof, a cloaked individual presented them with a Greek flag, to represent the Games ancient origin.
The voyager was later joined on stage by some acrobats who were dressed as alien-like creatures who helped him discover the Olympic rings which were hoisted from the stadium floor.
French pianist and opera singer Benjamin Bernheim then delivered a rendition of Hymn To Apollo as composer Alain Roche played on a piano while being suspended in the air.
After the performance athletes launched a ‘pitch invasion’ of the stage as the crowd were shown a film of the victories and failures during the Games.

Announcements in French and English appealed for the competitors to get off the stage, but many failed to take notice, jeopardising the show.
After being ejected from the stage where Phoenix were playing some athletes left the arena. While others continued to dance, jump and wave their arms in the air.
Paris 2024 organiser Tony Estanguet was given a rousing applause as he told how the Games had lifted the spirits of everyone who participated or watched – including the whale that photo-bombed the surfing final in Tahiti.
He thanked everyone who had played their part in making these Olympic Games a success – the volunteers, the security forces and most of all the athletes.
He told the competitors: ‘You made us happy, you made us proud, thank you very much.’
He added that he was proud of among all the records broken during the Games was the most marriage proposals ever made at the competition.

A spokesman said: ‘It is very normal that Imane Khelif does not carry the flag of Algeria even though we announced that she would.
‘[Gold medal gymnast] Kaylia Nemour is a young women and it is totally right that she should take this role.

‘You’re bringing home more than just medals. You’ve inspired a new generation of athletes while entertaining a nation. Thank you.’
Artistic director Thomas Jolly said the show was called ‘Records’, and it promises to take the audience on a science-fiction dream-like immersive journey through time.
That will begin from the origins of the Olympic Games and will go to a dystopian future when the Olympics have disappeared and must be reinvented.
The extinguishing of the Olympic flame will be brought from Tuileries, where the cauldron has been on display and visited by tens of thousands of fans.
The proclamation of the end of the Olympic Games, will be made by the President of the International Olympic Committee, Thomas Bach.

This comes as Paris was thrown into chaos this afternoon when a topless prankster forced the Eiffel Tower to be evacuated just hours before the city’s showpiece Olympics closing ceremony.
The blonde, shirtless man was filmed scaling the 1,000ft-tall landmark above the first viewing deck and the Olympic rings that adorn the second section of the monument at around 2.45pm local time (1.45pm BST).
The shirtless man was seen scaling the 1,083 foot (330 metres) tower this afternoon
It came as footage emerged of a topless man being led away in handcuffs by police, before turning to the person filming and saying, in what appears to be a British accent, ‘it’s bloody hot, innit?’
It was unclear where he began his ascent, but he was spotted just above the Olympic rings adorning the second section of the monument
Flustered visitors told MailOnline today how they were quickly ushered down the tower’s stairwell by emergency crews as they detailed chaotic scenes.
Footage emerged of a topless man being led away in handcuffs by police, before turning to the person filming and saying, in what appears to be a British accent, ‘it’s bloody hot, innit?’.
Police escorted visitors away from the area at around 3pm and the entry beneath the tower was closed.
Some visitors were briefly locked on the second floor but were allowed to exit around 30 minutes later.
On condition of anonymity because of an ongoing investigation into the incident, a Paris police official told The Associated Press: ‘An individual started climbing the Eiffel Tower at 2.45pm, police intervened and the person was detained.’
