Imane Kheif will probably retain the Olympic gold medal – even though it is affected with new accusations from a biological male.
Khelif won gold for Algeria at the Paris competitions in 2024 – one year after that Forbidden of the International Boxing Association Competition.
In 2023, the IBA Khelif forbade after tests in New Delhi to have produced the DNA of a “man”.
The IOC – which replaced the IBA as the boxing authorities of the Olympic boxing – were warned about the tests and insisted on removing Khelif from the competition.
But Khelif was allowed to box in Paris Because of her female passport status.
Since then, the alleged sex test results of the 2023 world championships have first been published by 3 Wire sports.
The medical report Seems to indicate that the boxer is biologically male.
The American journalist Alan Abrahamson produced the result of a test that is said to be performed on the boxer in New Delhi in March 2023 – who caused the disqualification of the boxer.
The published document summarizes the findings about Khelif as “abnormal” and says: “Chromosome analysis reveals male karyotype.”
A karyotype refers to the full set of chromosomes of an individual, who in Khelifs Case has been reported by (iba) as XY, the male pattern.
The leaked medical reports have fueled the calls for Khelif to be stripped of the gold medal she won in the 66 kg category for women.
Doraine Lambelet Coleman – A Thomas L. Perkins Distinguished Professor of Laws at the Duke Law School, however, explained why that is unlikely.
The legal expert told Newsweek: “The IOC would not withdraw medals that was won by athletes who were eligible according to the rules it established for the boxing match in Paris.
“In contrast to the recurring rules that have been laid down by the IBA and now worldboxing, these rules do not require that competitors were biologically female.”
The alleged test results carry the letterhead of Dr. Lal Pathlabs in New Delhi, accredited by the American College of Pathologists and certified by the Swiss international organization for standardization.
This immediately challenges what IOC spokesperson Mark Adams said in a tense news conference at the Olympic Games in Paris.
He described the results that Khelif saw as “ad hoc” and “not legitimate”.
IOC president Thomas Bach even claimed that the results are the product of a Russian-led incorrect information campaign.
It followed after the IBA – led by the Russian Umar Kremlev – was stripped of IOC recognition on ethics and financial management.
Khelif has always denied that it is an organic man and even called JK Rowling and Elon Musk In a court case of cyberbullying.
And the 26-year-old sworn to fight further, even by looking at another gold at the 2028 Olympic Games in Los Angeles.
‘Silence is no longer an option’
But worldboxing has ruled that Khelif is not eligible to enter future events as a woman Without first submitting to the same chromosome tests that has already activated the disqualification of the boxer at a global level.
The administrative body – approved for the time being to run Olympic boxing in LA – announced that all athletes in its competitions older than 18 years have to undergo a polymerase chain reaction (PCR) genetic test to determine their gender.
The test detects chromosomal material by a mouth bar, saliva or blood.
Khelif has not succeeded in providing any evidence of having female chromosomes in the nine months since the gender scandal broke out.
In February, Khelif spoke out in her defense and wrote: “I took over the main road for two years while my name and image have been used, unauthorized, to further personal and political agendas further lies and distribution of unbound lies and wrong information. But silence is no longer an option.
“The IBA, an organization that I am no longer associated with and that is no longer recognized by the IOC, has again made unfounded accusations that are false and offensive and use them to promote their agenda.
“This is a matter that not only me, but also the broader principles of fairness and the right process in sport.
“My team carefully reviews the situation and takes all the necessary legal steps to ensure that my rights and the principles of fair competition are maintained.
“Those responsible for these actions must be held responsible and we will pursue all legal ways to ensure that justice prevails.”
A spokesperson for IOC said to Sun Sport: “The IOC has always made it clear that the suitability criteria are the responsibility of the respective international federation.
“The factors that are important for sports performance are unique for every sport, discipline and/or event.
“We are waiting for the full details how sex tests will be implemented in a safe, honest and legally enforceable way.”
