Wild moment Anthony Albanese is heckled as protesters disrupt press conference in Tasmania
Anthony Albanese has been harassed by protesters.
The Prime Minister was almost drowned out by protesters who reportedly chanted “shame on Albanian” at a press conference in Sorrell, northeast of Hobart in Tasmania.
Mr Albanese, who had unveiled Rebecca White as a candidate for the marginal federal seat of Lyon, did not respond or address the demonstrators, instead staring off into space in stony silence.
He also shared the stage with Agriculture Minister Julie Collins to pledge $28 million to efforts to improve water quality and environmental conditions in Macquarie Harbour.
It is an important fishing ground for salmon and the only known home of the Maugean ray, an endangered species.
Mr Albanese said Tasmania’s salmon industry “is the backbone of many regional communities and it is essential that we support the thousands of jobs it creates across the state”.
“To do that it is essential that we have a sustainable industry that supports workers and the environment,” he said.
“That’s exactly what this will help do: ensure we have a sustainable salmon industry and provide stability for workers and their families into the future.”

To help offset the damage to Macquarie Harbor’s health caused by human activities, $21 million has been earmarked to scale up oxygenation in the harbour.
A further $5 million has been earmarked specifically to expand the Maugean ray breeding programme.
There’s more to come.
