Will raise Manipur issue in Parliament with ‘full force’: Rahul | India News – Times of India
NEW DELHI: Leader of Opposition in the Lok Sabha Rahul Gandhi said that the Congress and INDIA block will increase the demand for recovery normality in Manipur “with full force” in parliamentsetting the tone for a potentially stormy budget session starting on July 22.
Posting a video of his interactions with locals in reception camps During his recent visit to the northeastern state, Rahul wrote on X (formerly Twitter): “I have visited Manipur thrice since the violence broke out but unfortunately there is no improvement in the situation – even today the state is divided into two parts. Houses are burning, innocent lives are in danger and thousands of families are forced to live in relief camps.”
He said that Prime Minister Narendra Modi should personally visit Manipur and appeal for peace while listening to the problems of the people. “The Congress and the INDIA bloc will raise the need for peace in Manipur with full force in the Parliament to put pressure on the government to end this tragedy,” the LoP added.
In the video, Rahul is heard telling locals: “I can help you… I can raise the issue and put pressure on you… but I cannot reassure you when you can go home because the government has the answer to this. You will see in the next session, I will make your voice heard.”
Congress general secretary KC Venugopal said, “Every visit to Manipur leaves us completely devastated by the scale of suffering they are going through. No security, no medical care, not even a glimmer of hope for a return to normalcy. This cannot continue for a minute longer. We will not stop pressuring the government to take action until peace is restored in the valley and hills of Manipur.”
Meanwhile, Congress functionary Priyanka Gandhi Vadra asked, “When will the Prime Minister open his mouth on Manipur? Why has the government not made any efforts for peace in Manipur?
