Willie Mullins says it was a ‘big surprise’ to get a historic royal horse to train – and he wants to pay back King Charles with Ascot Glory.

Highly reached, which was bred by the late Queen Elizabeth II, is the first horse to be trained in Ireland by a reigning monarch.

“I probably look at the race of two and a half miles (Ascot Stakes), but we will look at both stay races on the first day.

“If you look at his family tree, it’s all endurance. He seems to stay very good.”

King Charles actually rode at Cheltenham Festival, where Mullins dominates, but the royal runners tend to concentrate on the flat.
