Willie Mullins has broken up a ‘promising’ new jockey – when an army of new recruits starts to arrive at his headquarters of Closutton.

Anna McGuinness hit in her first winner for the all-conquering trainer with victory on board the JP McManus ownership I Am River in Kilbeggan on Sunday.

The six-year-old sent 15-8 and made everything off after 517 days to win with two and a quarter length of Gavin Cromwell’s 100-30 in the trenches.

McGuinness then came for praise from McManus’ racemanager Frank Berry.

And this success could pave the way to a whole load in the future more trips.

She got the leg on Mullins’ a cent hundred in the recent Mayo National in Ballinrobe, finished third and took a check for £ 7,500.

Victory On I Am River only came on her third ride for Mullins – who closely monitors Anna when she rides on his cork yard.

Berry Berry said: “The horse jumped great and got a wonderful ride from Anna.

“She brought him in a nice rhythm and you would be happy with him.

“Anna drives out in Willie and finished third in the Mayo National and could not have done it better.”

Unbelievable, the first victory of McGuinness once came to Freak 150-1 outsider Feast in a downpatrick bumper in July 2023.

With a very ‘promising’ conditional rider, McGuinness has three career profits, but will certainly get the chance in a load.

Her addition to Mullins‘Jockey Ranks comes if he still continues to add new talent to his huge team of horses.

Among them is £ 125,000 point-to-point purchase Bentraghhill.

The familiar right-hand hand of Mullins, Harold Kirk, made the winning bid for the ‘beautiful’ four-year-old at the sale last week.

He comes from Wilson Dennison, who previously had Mullins Stars Yorkhill, Shaneshill and Bellshill.

In the meantime, Audrey Turley, who owns Galopin des Champs, is looking for Mullins.

And Point-to-point winner Arcadian Emperor is another one that has recently arrived.

That lot will be accompanied by Mullins’ £ 300,000 purchase and Cheltenham Bumper -winner Poetisa.
