With iOS 18, you can now shoot videos while listening to music or podcasts
iOS 18 is packed with features and improvements, from more customization options to a full password manager app, the ability to lock apps, and more. And now we know about one additional feature – one that’s small, but potentially very useful for some people.
As noted by 9to5MacWith iOS 18, you can record videos without pausing your music, podcast, or whatever else you’re listening to.
Technically, you can already do this, but only by long-pressing the shutter button while in the camera app’s photo mode. So you’ll have to remember to use this unusual method, and recording video this way also limits you to 1080p quality at 30fps, so it’s not as good as using the dedicated video mode.
No more compromises
With iOS 18, though, you don’t have to make that compromise: simply switch to the video camera, hit record, and you’ll find your audio continues to play.
This usually isn’t all that useful, but if, for example, you’re listening to something while walking and you see something you want to film, you don’t have to pause the audio. 9to5Mac also gives the example of shooting video with a mounted iPhone while riding your motorcycle, and of listening to music in your helmet (since the audio doesn’t stop even if you play the music through your AirPods).
So there are certainly applications and it’s strange that it’s taken Apple so long to add such a seemingly simple feature.
If you want to try out the feature, you can download the beta version of iOS 18 now , but we recommend waiting for the finished version of iOS 18, which is expected to be released in September.
