Woman airlifted to hospital after being stabbed in the chest on a crowded Sydney train as alleged knifeman was tasered by police
A woman has been airlifted to hospital after being stabbed on a crowded train.
The woman, in her 30s, was stabbed in the chest at 1.30pm on Saturday while on a train heading to Armidale from Sydney.
NSW Police responded to reports of a woman being stabbed between Singleton and Muswellbrook.
The train was stopped 140 miles (227 km) northwest of the city at Ravensworth and emergency services subdued the alleged attacker, a 35-year-old man.
Police used a Taser and pepper spray to stun the man before arresting him.
The woman was taken to John Hunter Hospital in a serious condition.
Her alleged attacker is also in hospital under police guard.
None of the 167 other passengers on board the service were injured in the incident.

NSW Police said the man was arrested by paramedics and that he knew the victim.
“He was examined by paramedics and taken to hospital where he remains under police guard,” the statement said.
‘The man and the woman are probably known to each other.’
A crime scene has been established and their investigation is ongoing.
