She wore a corset-style midi dress in the color she was wearing, as she felt it did not go against the traditional dress code.

Katie (@shopbrooklynblvd) is steadily gaining followers on TikTok, where she promotes her fashion brand.

TERRIBLE DRESS

She went viral on the social media app when she tried to convince people that her beige dress was suitable to wear to someone else’s wedding.

“If you were to ask me about the rule of ‘don’t wear white to a wedding as a guest,’ I would say yes, obviously don’t wear a white dress,” she said.

“But if you were to ask me on a deeper level, I would say that cream and beige are not the same as white.

“It’s okay to wear a cream dress because it’s not white and you won’t look like the bride.”

She posed from different angles in Brooklyn Boulevard’s Penelope paisley corset midi dresswhich cost $108.

The tight-fitting dress features a beige skirt and a paisley print top, complete with pockets.

She argued that despite the light color, the outfit is suitable to wear as a wedding guest.

“People get too specific with the shades they consider white,” she said.

“White is white. Beige is beige. That’s my opinion.”

‘There’s no way anyone would wear that to my wedding,’ people furious as woman shows off OTT mother of the bride outfit

Katie expressed her displeasure in the caption of the post: “cream and white are not the same!”

“This dress is definitely cream/beige and not stark white, so OK to wear to a wedding,” she said.

“Thank you for listening to my controversial views on this sensitive topic.”

WORSE FOR WEAR

Although the video was liked more than 55,000 times, many people claimed she was wrong.

“If you show up in beige, you’ll go home covered in red,” someone said.

“As someone wearing an ivory dress and getting married in two months, I wouldn’t be okay with this,” another chimed in.

Traditional Rules for Wedding Guests

According to The Knot, colors that might appear white in photos should be avoided at weddings.

There is an ‘unwritten rule’ that only the bride is allowed to wear flashy white.

It is also advisable to avoid wearing cream, beige or champagne coloured clothing unless the bride and groom have stated this as the dress code on the invitation.

“Cream, beige, even extreme light yellow, light white-gray, even very light blue are out of the question,” said a third.

A fourth person argued that beige and cream outfits can look white in photos, while another said Katie’s dress is “gorgeous” but that she should take the bride into consideration.

Katie told The US Sun she was glad she had sparked the heated debate.

She said the trolling video drew attention to her online retailer Brooklyn Boulevard.

“If someone showed up at my wedding in this suit, I wouldn’t be surprised,” she said.

“I don’t see any problem wearing this dress to a wedding, and I personally would.

“I think the reactions to my video were exactly as expected.

“I posted this video in hopes of creating an internet debate to increase brand awareness and drive traffic to my website where I sell that dress… and it worked!”
