The anonymous woman’s body decoration covers the entire inside of her forearm.

It features an iMessage-like text: “Dad, I miss you” with a love heart.

But also in the style of Apple’s messaging system, the imaginary message has the words “Not delivered” written in small letters underneath it.

The grieving daughter chose the unique design as a tribute to her late father, who passed away in 2008.

At the top of the post are his dates of birth and death.

A photo of the tattoo recently went viral on Instagram, and social media users were less than pleased.

“This is the most horrible thing I have ever seen,” someone shouted.

“You must hate the artist who did this for not dissuading you from this idea,” claimed a second.

“I want to rip my eyes out,” groaned a third.

Another Instagram user called the tattoo “self-torture.”

Some critics feared that the tattoo, because of its size and placement, would only bring more grief to the daughter if she looked at it.

“That’s a depressing tattoo that’s on your face every second of the day,” someone said.

“My condolences, but I’m not getting a tattoo on my arm that makes me depressed,” wrote a second.

“If this was my dad I would cry every time I looked at it,” predicted a third.

What to do and not to do when getting a tattoo

    1. Think, think and think again

Tattoos that you get done on a whim are much more likely to lead to regret than a tattoo that you have thought long and hard about. Think about why you want what you have chosen. And if you still want it after a few months, get it.

    2. Age restrictions apply

In the UK you must be 18 years old to get a tattoo.

    3. Don’t negotiate the price

When you go to a tattoo shop, the price is the price. You pay for the time and skill of an artist, they charge what they think those things are worth.

    4. Don’t get tattooed when you’re hungry

Eat before you go to your tattoo session and make sure you are hydrated. You are about to be subjected to a period of prolonged physical discomfort, if you are feeling a little weak from hunger or dehydrated it will not go as smoothly as it should.

    5. Don’t drink alcohol before getting a tattoo

If you are drunk or on drugs, do not get a tattoo. In fact, if your tattoo artist has any of their stuff, they will turn you away if you are clearly under the influence of any intoxicants. I would also not drink the night before, even a few drinks will thin your blood and make you bleed more.

According to the tattoo experts at Inkbox, people often honor their deceased parents with smaller designs.

“Adding a father’s handwriting, signature or meaningful quote can add a very personal touch, making the tattoo a direct link to his legacy,” the authors say.

“Symbols representing a father’s interests, hobbies, or character traits can serve as an indirect yet poignant tribute to his influence and presence in one’s life.

“Sometimes the simplicity of a name, date or a combination of both can speak volumes and serve as a timeless reminder of a father’s impact and love.”
