The social media user wrote: “Has anything worked against hair loss?

“Have vitamins/supplements ever clearly helped prevent hair loss?

‘I don’t want it anymore.

“I just don’t want it to thin around the temples and the hairline at the front.

“I’m 42 and have no signs of menopause, generally eat quite healthily (although I avoid journaling).”

Many beauty fans rushed to the comments section to share their thoughts.

One person in particular had a beauty hack that helped improve not only the thickness of her hair, but also her hairline.

They suggested she try red onion juice.

The message read: “Once a week I put half a red onion in the juicer and then use a cotton ball to run it through my scalp.

“I leave it on for a few hours and then wash it out.

‘Can’t praise it enough’ shoppers with fine hair are raving about the great value spray that ‘thickens your locks’, and you’ll get change from £6

“It works and my hairline is better now than when I was 15, lol, even my husband uses it now and little baby hairs are growing where his hairline recedes.

“I also no longer comb or brush my hair.

Red onions and rice water

“I only detangle my fingers because my postpartum hair loss was so bad this time that I lost huge amounts from brushing.”

Red onions cost just 20p at Tesco.

Another also suggested: “My hair has started to grow back since I started using Kit.sch’s rice water protein range.

“A lot of reviews say the same thing.

“I have a lot of new hair growth around the temples and at the top of the front.

“Regular shampoos (and hair dye) are not good for scalp health.

“I would try that, get tested for iron and thyroid problems, and make sure you take a high-quality multivitamin, eat plenty of protein, and drink plenty of water.”

Rice Water Shampoo Bar from Kit.sch normally costs €15, but is currently reduced to €11.40.

Hair loss 101

HER pro Samantha Cusick has revealed everything you need to know about hair loss.

Why does hair loss happen?

Hair loss can be affected by so many factors, from genetics and hormone changes to lifestyle choices.

Stress, diet and even hair care habits can all affect hair strength.

It’s completely normal to lose some hair every day, but sometimes the body can lose more hair than normal in response to things like hormonal shifts or even life stressors.

Why it happens more often this time of year

Have you ever noticed that your hair seems to fall out more in the fall? That’s a season’s loss!

During summer, we retain extra hair to protect our scalp from the sun.

As the weather cools, it’s as if our bodies are recalibrating and letting go of those extra strands.

Dry, cooler air can also make hair more brittle, making it easier to lose some extra volume during these months.

Hacks and Affordable Buys to Treat Hair Loss

The great news? You don’t have to spend a fortune on expensive treatments to support your hair.

Try daily scalp massages. They are so simple, but really help stimulate blood flow to the follicles.

Castor oil is another fantastic, budget-friendly option that is rich in nutrients to strengthen your strands.

Adding some more protein to your diet and a biotin supplement can also do wonders for overall hair health.

Products to avoid

Stay away from products with high alcohol, sulfates and parabens; these can dry out and damage the hair over time.

Heat styling and chemical treatments can also cause breakage, so try to use them sparingly.

Instead, look for gentle, moisturizing formulas to support your scalp and keep hair healthier throughout the seasons.
