Woman sues Vinted seller for selling 67p Shein ring for 20 times the price
A VINTED seller has been shamed after trying to sell a 67p Shein ring with a hefty profit margin of 20 times that.
With costs spiraling out of control, millions of people around the world are looking for ways to earn some extra cash. Online platform Vinted has become one of the most popular side hustles for many.
But one member of the site, which was founded in 2008 by two Lithuanians, is now using TikTok to warn about naughty ads.
Fashion lover Emma-Grace recently shared that she came across a Vinted advert in which the seller was offering a Zara ring.
The stunning accessory was a gold ring with a trendy pearl detail, which had a vintage look.
The seller, who had received a positive five-star rating from satisfied customers, had listed the price in the advert as £13.
The stunning ring, which the person insisted was purchased from the Spanish fashion giant, is also said to be ‘adjustable’.
But after some detective work and research online, bride-to-be Emma struggled to find ”proof that this ring is actually from Zara”.
According to Emma, who is due to marry in 2025, the ring appears to have been ordered from Chinese retailer Shein, where it can be purchased for a cool 67p, or 20 times less.
Emma urged other fashionistas not to fall for the cheeky trick, writing in the caption: ”Be careful out there.
”Does anyone know if this is actually Zara? Because who’s going to buy it when you can get it for 67p?”
Since she was posted on the platform, where Emma (@emsgracepeck) regularly shares lifestyle content. The video has now been viewed more than 80,000 times.
Dozens of social media users responded en masse with criticism of the seller and confirmed the origin of the jewelry.
“I have the same ring from Shein,” claimed one fashionista, who noted that it “isn’t worth the £13 it costs in the post.”
“That ring is in my cart right now and it weighs less than a pound,” said one customer.
”I have the same one from Shein. It’s ok but it has an adjustable strap which can be uncomfortable because it’s pointy – but it’s pretty and looks good in the pictures,” someone else added.
Do I have to pay tax on items I sell on Vinted?
FAST tax facts from the Vinted team…
- The only time an item is taxable is if it sells for more than £6,000 and there is a profit (sells for more than you paid for it). Even then you can use your £3,000 tax-free capital gains allowance to offset it.
- Generally, only business sellers who trade for profit (buying goods with the intention of selling them for more than they paid for them) are required to pay tax. Business sellers who trade for profit can take advantage of a £1,000 tax-free allowance, which has been in place since 2017.

Meanwhile, others came forward en masse with similar stories of fashion purchases where they were nearly ripped off.
“This has happened to me on Etsy. I bought something that was labeled as handmade, but then I saw the exact same item on Temu for a fraction of the price, and with the same product images.”
Emma, who sees this more often, adds: ”It’s happening more and more often there!
