Furnishing your home can be a big and expensive job, but there are ways to brighten up your living space and make it appear larger, even on a budget.

This is what Lauryn, also known as @lauryncp on TikTok, did with her hallway, which she explained was used as a “dumping ground” for laundry and other household bits and bobs.

“Our upstairs landing is really small, it’s literally just a little walkway,” says Lauryn began.

She said there was little wall space and no natural light coming in due to the lack of windows.

She said this means it can look “very dark and gloomy” in the small space.

“I just wanted to clean up the area and do something with it… I thought it would just be a Nice “There’s little project to do,” she said.

She told viewers that she Ikea mirror hack and wanted to try it out myself.

She hoped the reflection would shed some light on the small landing.

She started by putting tape on the wall to stop the paint from running and then covered the wall with Johnstone’s Paint Vinyl Matt Emulsion in Steel Smoke, which costs £15 from B&M.

She said she didn’t want to take her kids on a trip to IKEA – because it was summer vacation – so she bought some acrylic mirror tiles from TikTok store.

These start at just £5 and come in a variety of shapes and sizes, so you can make the right choice for your project.

But the hardest part of the project, according to the mother of five, was removing the stickers before they could be applied.

“[It’s] a bit of a hassle if you have long nails“, she joked.

Beautiful hallway makeover on a budget!

Lauryn added that it didn’t take long at all to do everything. From taping to tiling it took “about an hour.”

“I’m very happy with the result,” she said in a video showing her placing a vase in front of the mirrors.

The vase came from Primark and was filled with fake greenery.

She concluded by saying that the mirrors had certainly helped her get the light she wanted.

When asked how she got the mirrors perfectly symmetrical and spaced, she said in the comments, “I measured and marked, but mostly by eye! I just made sure they were straight with the level.”

Four Cheap Home Renovation Tricks

YOU don’t have to spend a ton of money to give a room a new look. Here are five other home renovation tricks you can try.

Kitchen cabinets

One way to give your kitchen a complete transformation for less is to change the look of your kitchen cabinets. There are many different vinyl sidings to choose from, and it’s a quick and easy way to update your home.

Handles

Another thing you can try without spending a lot of money is to replace the handles. You can buy relatively cheap handles at hardware stores or even thrift stores. Adding new handles to your kitchen cabinets or doors in your home can be very effective.

Leftovers

Most of us have old, half-used cans of paint sitting around in the garage, but they’re often forgotten about. However, there could be enough in the can to paint an accent wall in another room, and you don’t have to spend a dime.

Free stuff

It’s worth checking your local Facebook Marketplace or Freecycle to see what other people are getting rid of. As they say, one man’s trash is another man’s treasure. And if someone is planning to redecorate a room, they might want to get rid of a sofa or coffee table that could be used to give a lounge a new look.

People commented on how much they loved Lauryn’s work. Even professionals raved about how beautiful it looks.

“I am a painter and decorator and it looks beautiful [hearts around face emoji]”, someone wrote.

A big compliment, that’s for sure!

Another said: “I love how you created more space and light with the mirrors.

“You gave me an idea to do something similar, since I have limited space on my landing.”

“Wow, what a transformation. [It’s] sweet [red heart emoji]”, someone else wrote.

Kudos to Lauryn, it looks amazing!
