The tournament, which used to contain only six teams, has been extended to 32 teams, spread over Europe, South America, North -America, Africa, Asia and Oceania.

But it is not only the tournament size that looks different, but also the way in which the games are officially announced after FIFA had announced five “portrovations” to be used in the competition.

Football‘s World Governing Body and Tournament organizers have revealed that fans will see more of the referee’s decision -making than ever before.

The first announced change is that referees will wear body cameras during competitions, with the images used during live match broadcasts.

While images of the reviews of the referee (VAR) are broadcast live in the stadium – something that Premier League fans have been asking for a while.

FIFA will also test an “advanced” semi-automated offside technology using sensors in the balls, in the hope of making further improvement compared to the technology that has already been used in UEFA competitions like the Champions League.

A fourth change is the use of AI to collect live match data, so that fans can see even more statistics and figures to dissect the competition.

Although the final innovation is that managers and coaching staff can ask for their replacements with the fourth official via a digital tablet, using the old -fashioned paper slips that are currently being used.
