The happiest city in the world has been officially crowned and it is a European capital that is being taken this year.
An annual ranking, the Happy City Index Looks at various important factors to determine how ‘happy’ a city is.
Cities are assessed on their governance and social involvement, economy, health, environment and mobility to determine how happy their residents are.
And this year’s winner? Copenhagen.
The Danish capital is a ‘vital hub for culture, governance and economic activity’, explains the Happy City Index.
It picks up no fewer than 1,039 lucky points in the index that helps to rise to the top of the stage.
The city is ‘deeply committed to the sustainability of the environment’, while 69 percent of transport is ‘environmentally friendly’.
And Copenhagen even has its own Happiness Museum. The ‘Kleine Museum about the great things in life’ helps visitors to learn exactly why Denmark is so happy.

Secondly, Zurich is on the list with a total of 993 lucky points. The largest city in Switzerland is ‘known for economic strength, high quality of life and dedication to sustainability’.
The city also has many ‘environmentally friendly’ transport options, ‘strong renewable energy initiatives’ and a robust health service.
Singapore is the best -scoring city outside of Europe and takes a total of 979 points to place third place in the index.
It scores strongly on its ‘world -famous universities’, high levels of ‘civil involvement’ and extremely low unemployment rate.
Another Danish city, Aarhus, takes fourth place on the list of 958 points. The second largest metropolis of the country, Aarhus has a ‘robust economy’ and a high level of ‘civil involvement’.
Antwerp in Belgium completes the top five with a score of 956 points and beat Seoul in sixth place (942 points).
London, the highest scoring UK City, is unable to land the top 20 instead in 31st place.
However, it still earns a high score of 842 points and is celebrated for its ‘extensive and efficient transport network’. The city is falling slightly in the ranking due to the high obesity rate (26 percent).

London, the highest scoring British city, is unable to make the top 20 instead in 31st place
York is the next happiest British city (63rd place) with 771 points while reading scores the highest (88th place, 742 points).
Manchester (101st place, 713 points) and Bristol (103rd place, 708 points) complete the British top five.
New York is the highest scoring city in the US that comes in 17th position in the ranking with 902 lucky points.
The Big Apple picks up high scores for education, social involvement and sustainability.
However, it slips the ranking due to lower health care scores. New York has an obesity rate of 41.9 percent.
