Xavi is ‘p***ed off’ after Barcelona wasted too many opportunities in the Champions League defeat to Bayern Munich before conceding a soft goal from a corner… with a double-header against Inter Milan now crucial

Barcelona coach Xavi was ‘p***ed off’ after his team was beaten 2-0 by Bayern Munich in the Champions League.

Despite 18 shots on Bayern’s 14, the German champions won at the Allianz Arena thanks to goals in the second half from Lucas Hernandez and Leroy Sané to take control of Group C.

Xavi’s side had to pay for debauchery in front of goal and the coach made no secret of his annoyance afterwards.

‘I’m broken, I’m broken. I don’t like to lose – and we didn’t deserve it,” he told Movistar TV.

“I think we were better, we dominated them. We had six or seven big chances, but we missed them and Bayern took their chance.

“We competed, we played really well and if we had scored it would have been a very different game.

“However, this is the Champions League, you have to compete and you try to avoid the corner marker error that prevented them from 1-0.

“In no way should our rival be allowed to score from a corner foul if we have the game under control.

Or to score through the middle on a counterattack. We must learn from these mistakes. We can’t shake them that much.

“I’m leaving here pretty hacked, because this was a night to win. But I’m also proud of the team.

“But it’s about winning and we’re going to have to fight better at crucial moments like the two goals and be more effective when we create chances.”

Bayern crushed Barcelona 3-0 at home and away when they met in the Champions League group stage last season, so this marked a slight improvement.

But Xavi was still frustrated when his team’s unbeaten start to the season in Bavaria came to an end.

With Inter Milan beating Viktoria Plzen 2-0 on Tuesday night, much depends on the upcoming encounters between Barcelona and Inter Milan.

The two heavyweights will meet on October 4 in San Siro and on October 12 at Camp Nou. Both have achieved three points in the group so far.

Bayern coach Julian Nagelsmann dismissed concerns over Sadio Mane’s acuity after Liverpool’s £35million summer signing failed to make a shot against Barcelona.

“He’s done so much for Liverpool,” Nagelsmann said. “He’s a new addition, he just has to adapt. He tried. I’m sure he will succeed for us.’

About the game, Nagelsmann added: ‘In the first half, Barcelona had the better chances than us; our last ball wasn’t quite there.

“It went much better in the second half and our efficiency made the difference.”
