- Xreal Detailed project Aura on AWE 2025
- It will have a huge field of vision of 70 degrees
- It will also be tied to a spatial computer puck with Android XR
While we had suspected that Android XR Would be an important part of Google I/O 2025We could not have predicted that some of the Partners Google announced that it would work, including the gadget makers at the top of our Best smart glasses List: Xreal.
As promised by Xreal on I/O, it has been brought to the Augmented World Expo 2025 stage in Long Beach California to give us new details about his Project aura -glassesAnd it’s an impressive device.
For me, the most important detail is that the device will apparently have a field of vision of 70 degrees, which is absolutely huge.
The 50-degree field of vision of the Xreal One already felt big, and the 57 degrees Xreal One Pro Is a noticeable step-up-size-qua size (you have to wait a little longer for our full review). 70 degrees will be huge.
The field-of-view-upgrade suggests-Xreal has not yet confirmed this-that the aura specifications will borrow the new optical engine of the Xreal One Pro (and perhaps even further upgrades it) including the lenses with a flat prism, because one of the most important advantages is that it makes a larger FOV possible.
This optical system also comes with other upgrades, which can help to use the Android XR glasses all day long while walking around.
Another interesting piece is that these specifications – such as the other glasses from Xreal – are tied, which means that they are powered by an external device with which they are connected via a cable.
We already knew that Aura would not be on stand -allone, but Xreal has revealed that the new shipping device with Aura is not only your standard telephone, or the Xreal Beam Pro.
It is slightly completely new, performing Android XR and powered by a Snapdragon chip from Qualcomm that seems to make all Android XR processors.
However, Xreal does not leave any own chipset. Aura itself will have an improved X1S chip that is a “modified version of X1 with even more force under the hood.” The X1 chipset is what is in the Xreal One and Xreal One Pro specifications.
XREAL still has to confirm whether it will sell the puck and the glasses separately, but if this is the case, I am interested in seeing what that decision means for the approach to the upgrade of his technology in the future.
At the moment you can pick up an Xreal glasses and a bundle computer as a bundle and then upgrade over time. Newer glasses offers better visuals and audio if that is your greatest care, while the new Beam Pro offers improved processing and spatial functions.
This is a less wasteful and generally more affordable design philosophy, because you only have to replace one component that you stop. However, as I said, Xreal still has to confirm whether it will sell the puck and glasses separately. The current formulation calls Project Aura “One solution consists of the wired XR glasses and a special calculation device”, suggesting that they can also be a complete, non-upgradable package.
Regarding a launch date, Xreal still keeps us in the dark, although it has said that the Aura project is coming in 2026, so hopefully we won’t wait too long.
Xreal One Pro Dead on arrival?
After this announcement, some fans begin to wonder if their Xreal One Pro -Aankoop was a good idea -whether they had waited a year or so longer and could have had an Xreal Android XR setup instead.
I will admit that for some Xreal a pro -buyers are waiting for the better approach, but I think others can rest more easily, because although the aura and one pro will probably share similarities, I suspect they will be very different devices.
To begin with, while the XREAL glasses are often at their best with the Beam Pro-Add-on, this is not required. You can use the specifications with a series of USB-Compatible devices, and even many HDMI devices with the right cables.
Based on the descriptions of Xreal so far, Project Aura is not only a portable display for entertainment; It is a complete spatial computer package with all the handy Android XR functions that we have shown.
This not only means that Aura’s purpose is different from the other glasses of Xreal; I expect the price to be very different.
At present, an Xreal Beam Pro and Xreal One Pro U $ 848 / £ 768 would cost (before taking into account a bundle or limited time discounts). For what sounds like it will be strongly improved hardware, I imagine that project Aura will cost closer at $ 1,000 / £ 1,000, if not anymore.
And don’t forget that you can buy the Xreal One Pro separately for just $ 649 / £ 579.
Better technology is always on the horizon at a certain moment, but this does not look like a repeat of the Meta Quest Pro / Meta Quest 3 FiascoIn which the last, much superior product launched for less than half the price of the first.
Instead, Project Aura seems to be more a diagonal shift, with new hardware with better specifications and another purpose.
If you want to wait for Project Aura, you should absolutely, because you might also be tempted by many of the other Android XR, Meta Smart glasses and new Snap Spectacles that will be launched the following year or so. But choosing not to wait is also not a bad option, and the Xreal One Pro is certainly not dead on arrival as some think.
