Yes, I surrendered to Bono’s compelling vision pro -documentary, and I didn’t get a Vertigo

Bono has been an omnipresent presence for most of my adult life. I just came into the world when U2’s break-beautiful bum, Wararrived, and against youOshua -BoomBono and main guitarist Edge felt inevitable. In other words, I saw U2 frontman Bono as less an enigma and more a contemporary.
We are both old men now, lick our psychological wounds and (in the case of Bono) it appears that they reveal them to the world in, first, 2022 Well received memoirs” Surrender: 40 songs, one story, And now as an unusual spoken and musical journey, Bono: stories of surrender – The first compelling film film ever released on Vision Pro. It is a joyful, funny, sad, sometimes frustrating and often intense tour of life and the career of Bono.
Usually it is a story of Bono (Paul Hewson) and “Da” are deep Irish father, Bob Hewson.
Apple provided me with a preview of the film, which I almost fully viewed via Apple’s $ 3,499 mixed reality headset. Because of the way Apple stated that I have access to the video, some technical glitches (incidental freezing), but it was generally a compelling and often moving experience.
The film was shot almost completely in grim black and white and is both a one -man oratory and an incidental musical performance. Director Andrew Dominik uses the vast, almost 360 degree canvas of the Vision Pro to literally paint scenes around Bono, while the singer tells special Irish stories about, for example, his mother who suddenly dies when he was only 14, and his father never spoke the name of his wife.
The stage is a reserve, with few more than a few chairs, a table and a fake spider Guinness. But Dominik uses the indigenous 3D -meesing possibilities of the Vision Pro to beautify the stage and the images.
With the help of 3D line drawing, Bono is, even as he acts or talks for a live audience, surrounded by points by texts, hand-drawn public members or boxes and papers that seem to reach to heaven above you.
This is not a concert or a U2 version. In the beginning, Bono admits that it is ‘almost transgressive’ to be on stage without its bandmates. Instead, Bono is supported by the Jacknife Lee Ensemble, which contains an electronic drum kit and a harpsichordist/backup singer. That doesn’t sound like much, but it works.
Bono, now 65, is even with a good voice, which is clear, loud and agile. This becomes less surprising if you learn that his father was a gifted tenor. Leave in the film Bono does part of his own operating ranges, clearly a tribute to his deceased father.
There are some musical performances and even a few moments in the Vision Pro experience where you feel that you are a nose-to-nose with the iconic lead singer (it is nerve-racking), but most of the singing is done to support the stories, or rather, the stories explain the origins of songs like Proud” With or without youAnd Sunday, damn Sunday.
There is a considerable amount of humor, especially a story about it Luciano PavarottiBut even more important, you will get the origin story of Bono’s musical interests and the formation of the band, which coincided with meeting his wife of more than 40 years, Ali Hewson.
The documentary starts a bit slowly and perhaps melodramatic, with Bono’s heart surgery of 2016, and although I am deeply grateful, I have worried that the entire doccual Doc can be a bit of a slog. Fortunately, that harrowing story was just the preamble, and soon Bono weave an entertaining story about reclamation, struggles and epiphanies.
However, it was frustrating to hear the story behind I will follow And do not get a complete performance of the number. I admit that I wanted more of U2’s discography, although Bono’s new interpretations, such as the almost a Capella Sunday, bloody Sunday, were amazing.
Finally, this Bono: stories of surrender Goes too fast, and it ends just as you feel that you finally got to know the real Bono, a short singer with big stories and, I think, an even bigger heart. He is still not an enigma, but for the first time in 40 years I have the feeling that I may just want to hang out with him.
As far as the Vision Pro is concerned, it has delivered a brilliant task. 90 minutes is a long time to wear the mixed reality headset (this was up to 10% battery at the end), so make sure you have a comfortable fit. Mine is good (I use the dual loop band), although I have taken a few breaks.
You can watch Bono: stories of surrender Start today on the Vision Pro (for the special compelling experience) or on Apple TV+, where I suspect that you will enjoy it just as much.
