You can now pause live video recording with the latest iOS 18 beta update
iOS 18 Release Candidate (RC) update brings a new feature that should improve the video recording experience on the iPhone. Apple says that the upcoming operating system (OS) update for the iPhone 16 and earlier models will allow users to pause live video recording. While the video pausing feature sounds simple enough and has been present on Android for a long time, the Cupertino-based tech giant now appears to have caught up to its main competitor following its anticipated rollout.
Pause video recording on iPhone
According to For Apple, the iOS 18 RC update rolled out just hours after the iPhone 16 launched globally, and it brings the ability to pause live video recording. It appears as a floating option in the camera viewfinder. Once recording has started, users will now see a pause button on the left-hand side, alongside additional “stop recording” and “snapshot” options.
Before the iOS 18 RC update, users didn’t have the ability to pause live video recordings. Instead, they had to stop and start recording and stitch them together to create one clip. So this could potentially be a convenience for people who regularly record videos on their iPhone.
Gadgets 360 staff were able to verify the feature’s availability by downloading and installing the iOS 18 RC update.
Apple’s latest beta update includes build number 22A3354. It doesn’t introduce any other new features, but it carries over the additions the iPhone maker introduced with previous developer and public beta updates, including new ways to customize your Home and Lock screens, a new Passwords app, a redesigned Photos app, and more options in Control Center. iPhone users can also record calls and have their transcripts in the Notes app. These features join other quality of life improvements expected to come to iPhone soon.
The iOS 18 RC update rollout will take place a week before the OS update is officially introduced for public users. The release date is set for September 16 worldwide.
