You can now share files directly to Gemini for quick analysis
Google has rolled out a new feature for Gemini – the artificial intelligence (AI) assistant on Android smartphones, according to a report. This allows users to share a document with the AI assistant via the Android share sheet, eliminating the need to open Gemini and then manually upload a file for analysis. This development comes after the Gemini app for Android was upgraded with a stored information feature that allows it to remember specific information about a user’s interests and preferences.
How to use Android share sheet with Gemini
In one reportAndroid Authority highlighted that this functionality was introduced with the Gemini app for Android version 1.0.686588308. Following the rollout, users can now quickly attach files from any app via the Android share sheet by tapping the share icon and then selecting Gemini from the list of options.
This feature eliminates the need for users to manually search for a file through the file picker in the Gemini app and allows them to quickly perform analysis by uploading it directly, the report speculates.
Furthermore, the report adds that users can select up to 10 files at a time for analysis. However, this option has several limitations when it comes to file extensions. According to the report, it can accept regular files in TXT format, document files in DOC, DOCX, PDF, RTF, DOT, DOTX, HWP and HWPX formats, and code files with C, CPP, PY, JAVA, PHP, SQL and HTML extensions.
Furthermore, it also supports CSV and TSV tabular data files, XLS and XLSX files created as spreadsheets, and all documents created in Google Docs and Sheets.
Although Gadgets 360 staff was able to verify the presence of this feature in Gemini for Android, its use requires a Gemini Advanced subscription that priced at Rs. 1,950 per month in India.
