You can now use ChatGPT Advanced Voice on Mac and Windows apps
ChatGPT Advanced Voice Mode, a feature first rolled out in September, is now being added to the artificial intelligence (AI) chatbot’s desktop apps. It was announced Thursday that OpenAI’s native chatbot will now offer a human-like voice chat experience to Mac and Windows users. First revealed at the OpenAI Spring Updates event in May, the feature can express emotions, modulate the voice and respond to what the user says. So far, only the platform’s paying subscribers have access to the feature.
ChatGPT Advanced Voice Mode comes to desktop apps
In one after on X (formerly known as Twitter), OpenAI’s official handle announced that Advanced Voice Mode has been rolled out to macOS and Windows desktop apps. This move is interesting because major AI companies have started turning their attention to the desktop to provide users with more powerful and comprehensive AI capabilities.
On the same day, Anthropic released its desktop apps for Mac and Windows, paving the way for the Computing tool. Google is also reportedly working on a new AI browser tool that can perform tasks such as booking movie tickets and purchasing a product. With OpenAI’s Advanced Voice, users can finally unleash the full capabilities of voice-based AI in a desktop environment. It is notable that the feature has only been available for Android and iOS apps so far.
Some of the ways users can take advantage of the ChatGPT Advanced Voice Mode is by verbally asking the AI to write a code, or by going back and forth while writing a research paper or university assignment. Users can also upload data files and then have a two-way conversation about their analysis and insights.
Users of the ChatGPT app will find the option to enable advanced voting mode by tapping the waveform icon next to the text field. Tapping the icon will activate the new voice mode. Users can now choose from five new voices: Vale, Spruce, Arbor, Maple and Sol. Each of these voices has a different pitch, tonality and regional accent.
However, the feature is still only available to ChatGPT Teams and Plus users. Additionally, those living in the EU, Great Britain, Switzerland, Iceland, Norway and Liechtenstein will not get the new feature.
