You can turn your waste into £20 at Boots, claims a money-saving whiz

BOOTS pays you to throw away your waste, customers claim.

The health and beauty retailer has a program where you can return empty makeup containers and baby wipe packs in exchange for cash to spend in-store.

For every five items you return, you will earn the equivalent of €5.

The only catch is that you have to be an Advantage Card member to take advantage of the scheme.

It’s all thanks to the Recycle at Boots program.

This planet-focused initiative allows customers to exchange empty beauty, health and dental items in-store that cannot be recycled at home.

In return, and after spending $10 shopping and recycling at least five products, you’ll receive $5 in free Advantage Card points.

It may not seem like much, but Money Saving Amy on Instagram has claimed that you can earn £20 worth of your waste by stacking the deal with cash back and other bonus points loaded onto your Advantage Card.

You can return as many empty containers as you like, but no more than five per day.

If you did this once a month for a year, you could earn £60 worth of loyalty points.

“Together with No7 we are doing our part to keep our planet beautiful,” said Boots bosses.

“That’s why we’ve created our Recycle at Boots scheme, where you can bring in your empty beauty, health, wellness and dental products, from any brand, that can’t be recycled at home.

“We know that many of these items cannot be traditionally recycled due to their size, the materials they are made from and several other factors.

“We want to do our part to care for the planet by making it easier to recycle items that might be difficult to recycle elsewhere.

“And we want to reward you for playing your part and making recycling part of your regime.

“Feel good about yourself, do good for the planet and get a treat along the way – everyone is a winner with our recycling program.”

Step-by-step guide to signing up for the program

  • You can download the Recycle at Boots app or use the third party Recycle at Boots website here
  • Scan your five products and upload them to the app or site at your home
  • Wait for the products to be approved and then take your empty packs to a participating Boots store
  • Scan the QR code on the collection bin and hand in your empties
  • You will then need to spend £10 in store to receive 500 Advantage Card points (equal to £5!)

Last month, Boots released a major update on its store closure plans, after previously announcing that 300 stores would close for good.

The chain announced last year that it would close hundreds of branches as part of a plan to reduce the number of stores.

In a new update, Boots UK told The Sun that more than 290 stores have now closed as part of these plans.

This means that fewer than ten more stores will close before the company completes its extensive closure program.
