You may soon get AI-generated file summaries on Slack
Slack, the work management and productivity platform, is reportedly working on a new artificial intelligence (AI) feature. According to a report, the new feature is called AI File Summarization and can summarize documents uploaded to the platform. The new feature is said to be able to summarize text-rich files so that users can quickly get an idea of the topic. This is a feature that is still in development and may not be visible to current users. Additionally, once the feature is released to users, it may be limited to users with a paid subscription to Slack and the AI add-on.
Slack is reportedly working on the AI file summarization feature
An Android authority report detailed the underdevelopment function during the disassembly process of an application package kit (APK). The publication found evidence of the feature in the recent Slack app for Android version 24-10-50-0. Several code strings have reportedly been unearthed that not only highlighted the feature’s functionality but also noted its limitations.
Based on the strings, it seems like the AI feature could be offered as a separate section on the platform, where users can upload files and get a quick summary of them. These summaries would be shareable and viewable when the file is forwarded to another conversation. However, one string also highlights that users can choose to disable the summary when sharing a file.
The strings also reportedly highlighted that the AI File Summary feature on Slack will not work if the file size is too large or there is not enough text to summarize. Currently, the defined boundaries for these margins are unknown. Additionally, another string reportedly revealed that only certain file formats will be supported and that password-protected files will not be summarized. Speculatively it can be said that PDF, Word and Text formats could be supported initially.
Furthermore, the publication was able to retrieve more strings with the tag “AI file summary”, which highlighted more functionalities, as well as the feedback system that could be implemented. For example, Slack says users can delete and delete the AI-generated summary of file details if it’s not satisfactory. However, this process is said to be irreversible.
Users can reportedly provide feedback to Slack on how well the feature is working. Some of the things they can choose from the strings include feedback such as whether the information was accurate or inaccurate, whether it contained too much or too little detail, and whether the layout was difficult or easy to understand .
