You may soon see ads on Perplexity AI

Perplexity AI, the artificial intelligence (AI) platform that can scour the internet to find curated answers to user queries, is planning to run ads on its platform, according to a new report. The company that built the AI-powered answering machine has reportedly prepared a pitch deck for advertisers to showcase the popularity and engagement of its platform. The AI company reportedly plans to run ads by the end of the year, though details have not been released. Notably, the company last month released a new feature called Pro Search, which can provide results for more complex queries.

Perplexity AI will reportedly start showing ads

According to a report by CNBC, the company now plans to bring advertisers to its search engine platform. The publication claimed to have seen the pitch deck for advertisers and said the company could start running ads as early as the fourth quarter of 2024.

Perplexity’s pitch deck reportedly included numbers and data about the platform’s users and engagement. The company reportedly claimed that its apps, which are available on both Android and iOS, have been downloaded more than two million times. The deck also noted that the platform answers more than 230 million questions per month, according to the report.

Currently, the AI platform has a freemium subscription model for revenue. It has a basic free tier that offers unlimited quick searches and five Pro Searches per day, and a Pro tier that offers over 300 Pro Searches and additional features. The Pro tier costs $20 (approximately Rs. 1,670) per month. It is unclear whether these reported ads will also appear on the free tier or the Pro tier.

If the report is to be believed, it seems that the company is now planning to diversify its revenue streams. One reason for this could be the recent decision to launch a revenue-sharing model for publishers. In June, multiple media publications including Forbes and Wired reported, accused Confusion of plagiarism their content.

With the income sharing planWhen a publisher’s content is cited in the brand’s sponsored related questions and Perplexity generates revenue from the interaction, a fixed percentage is shared with the cited publisher. The revenue sharing model works on a per-article basis.

While the reported pitch deck could relate to the ads mentioned in the revenue-sharing plan, the report did not clarify whether those ads would be separate from it.
