You smell like a bag of chips with my hippie-dippy hair ends, but it works

The beauty fan shared the hack on the Reddit forum 30 Plus Skincare, which has nearly 2 million members.

She wrote in response to a user’s request for advice on how to make their “dull and boring” locks look “beautiful.”

“Okay, this might sound a little woo-woo, but bear with me,” she said, writing below the username Specific_things.

“I have a PhD in materials science, which involves a lot of chemistry.

“Tap water in most parts of the world has a relatively high pH.”

According to her, the dissolved minerals and other treatments in tap water make the hair brittle.

“Your hair, on the other hand, is acidic, just like your skin,” she said.

“So when you put tap water on your acidic hair, you disrupt the natural pH balance of your hair by depositing excess negative charges (OH-) on the surface.”

She said that the pH problem can be solved by using an acidic product on your hair while showering.

“I take a cup of white vinegar and pour it into my hair as a last step,” she said.

I haven’t used shampoo for a year – I wash my hair with clay and vinegar, now my curls have more volume and I shed less.mp4

“But you do smell like a bag of chips.

“I also like to add a few drops of Olaplex No. 7 when my hair is still a little damp.”

Over 414,000 Sephora customers are raving about Olaplex No. 7 Bonding Frizz Reduction & Heat Protectant Hair Oil.

The brand recommends applying two to three drops of the $30 oil to dry or damp hair before styling.

It is specially developed to protect hair from damage, soften it and increase shine.

ACID ANTIDOTE

Many people upvoted the Reddit post to show their gratitude for the advice.

The Redditor tried to convince those still on the fence about trying the hack that they didn’t have to worry about the vinegar smell lingering.

“The acid in vinegar is volatile, so it evaporates within 5-10 minutes and leaves no odor once you dry,” she said.

She recommended using white vinegar, but hair care gurus are most vocal about apple cider vinegar.

According to Medical news todayACV’s high acidity can help maintain pH balance for “smoother, stronger, shinier” hair.

Some dermatologists also believe that the ingredient’s anti-inflammatory properties may be helpful in preventing dandruff.

Two to four tablespoons of apple cider vinegar can be mixed with 16 ounces of cold water to create a rinse that you can apply after shampooing and rinsing your hair.

Leave the mixture on for a maximum of two minutes and then rinse thoroughly.
