‘You’d be crazy,’ people shout as mother reveals garden question of ‘cheeky’ neighbors

A mother has revealed that her neighbours have submitted a bizarre garden request, saying they need the garden to renovate their home.

The homeowners had recently purchased their home and were introduced to their neighbors after stopping by to inquire about a specific question.

But she was still confused by it, because she wasn’t sure if it was a fair request.

So the mother decided to turn to the online forum Mumsnet to ask other users of the site for advice.

She wrote: “We recently bought a new house and our neighbours at the end of our garden would like to redo the outside of their house.

“They came by today to ask permission, because the work required scaffolding in our garden. To their surprise, they found seating and an olive tree in the area.

“They have asked if we can move the olive tree and the chairs so they can do the work, but I am a little concerned about moving such a large tree.”

Clearly confused by the request, the mother asked Mumsnet users if anyone else had “experience with this”?

She continued: “They acted like it wasn’t really that big of a deal, but I did some research on it and it doesn’t seem to be as simple as they claim.”

My nightmarish neighbors moved in three weeks ago and have complained 13 times in three days about my toddler’s “noisy” footsteps

The after attracted a lot of attention and many rushed to the comments section to share their thoughts. Many disagreed with her neighbors.

One of them simply wrote: “No, it’s obvious you can’t move the tree!”

Another added: “Just say no. Their scaffolders will find a solution.”

A third Mumsnet user said the homeowner would be ‘a fool to allow this’.

They continued: “I would absolutely not consider this.

“It’s not just about moving a tree, which can take years of work, but also about months of mess, disruption and potential invasion of privacy when construction workers come in or out of your garden.

“Is this work an extension/improvement or essential maintenance?

“You say you recently moved in. I wonder if they tried that with the previous owners and were told no. And now they’re trying it with you, the new owner, and pretending they didn’t know there was a tree there?

Top 5 Reasons Why Neighbors Fight

A survey by Compare the Market revealed the top reason why British neighbours argue

  1. Broken Fences – At the top of the board were broken fences and who was responsible for fixing them?
  2. Parking: One of the leading causes of neighborhood disputes, with 54.1 percent of people having problems with people parking in front of their home, parking space or driveway
  3. Trees – complaints about a neighbour’s tree damaging your garden path were also common, with almost half of respondents finding this frustrating.
  4. Trash Can Wars – Outdoor trash can etiquette continues to spark some of the most heated debates between neighbors
  5. Nosy neighbors – some people have their eyes and ears ready to take a peek and cause problems for others

“They would be able to see it from their upstairs windows if it was a large one, wouldn’t they? Do you think that would have affected the sale by the previous owners?

“You’d be a fool to allow it. They need to find a way to do the work that doesn’t infringe on your property.”

Another added: “We had our roof replaced last year.

“The roofing company wanted to put some of the scaffolding on our neighbours’ patio, but because it had recently been replaced, our neighbours refused (which was perfectly reasonable).

No, it is clear that you cannot move the tree

“Our roofers ended up using a smaller structure that still did the job.

“So don’t feel obliged to move your stuff, because their scaffolders will find a way around it.”
